"Scugog's Community Newspaper of Choice" PORT PERRY STAR - Wednesday, May 23, 2001 - 13 Committee wants to review public's comments on CTC plaza proposal By Chris Hall Port Perry Star Members of the town- ship's economic devel- opment committee hope to review the pub- lic's comments on the new Canadian Tire plaza proposal before a final decision is made. Ward 2 Councillor Marilyn Pearce suggest- ed last week that the committee take some time to look over the comments before Scugog Council decides the future of the propos- al. A public meeting has been scheduled for May 28 on the matter. It will be held at the Scugog WHEN RESULTS co QUNT, Community Centre, beginning at 7 p.m. The plan calls for the construction of two mas- sive new stores, a Canadian Tire and Sobey's (IGA), as well as additional retail space and two drive-thru fast- food outlets. The proposal calls for the plaza to be built just south of Port Perry, on the east side of Simcoe St. That land is the last remaining parcel of fully-serviced property, and neighbours the Scugog Marsh. "I hope this commit- tee has the opportunity to formalize the (pub- lic's) comments and we get a chance to hear its impact from the Chamber and BIA. "Councillors need to hear what the public is saying, whether they're for or against it and what "it's benefits are." Before the project can proceed, zoning changes need to be made, and amendments must be made to both the township and region's official plans. . SUTTON group i g.
