The series has grown up, just as | have, and t i is something that I want to be a part of. It's been a lot of hard ~_| work but I've received an incredible amount of support from my parents, my wife, Ann and the girls, Ashley and Alicia. They've helped out immensely, allowing me the time to work on the car and preparing for the season." Part of the challenge of entering the CASCAR series is acquiring the right equipment, and Sauder's solution has only added to his work load. "I didn't want to buy an 'Off The Shelf' chassis, | want- ed to build my own. Everything that I've built fits the CAS- CAR rules, and the series officials have approved my designs. Knowing what I've got under and around me gives me a little more confidence." Sauder's finished product is a 2000-bodied, Dodge Intrepid, powered by a J.B. Engines Dodge 360 cubic inch power plant. The black #36 Chrysler enjoys primary spon- sorship from TTR Transport, J.B. Engines and Scugog Transmission, but has also received significant support from a host of local businesses. "I've got to give special thanks to Fred at SignWorks and Phil and Doug from Swamp Auto Body. I think I've got the best looking car in the series. I've also received some greatly appreciated help from TT Racing Products, John at the Cashway Building Centre here in Port Perry and Carlos from the town's UAP dealership." George from North Port Tire, Perfect Heating's Tim and Kawartha Dodge in Peterborough round out the list of financial supporters for the grateful veteran racer. "This level of competition is definitely up a notch or two from what I've been used to. There are 15 to 20 excel- lent drivers on the roster with probably 30 well funded, professional teams in this series. Some people may look and wonder when I pull in with my car on a flatbed trailer and set up alongside of those mega-dollar transporters. But the last time I looked, we didn't race trailers. On the track, we're all pretty equal, I'll take them all on, and I'll beat them." Gates open for the National Fast Freight/Exide Batteries 250 CASCAR event at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 9. There will be an autograph session at 5:15 p.m., fol- lowed by the 250 lap feature contest. WINDOWS & PATIO DOORS Energy efficient windows reduce draft & increase warmth.
