"Scugog"s Community Newspaper of Choice" RIK DAVIE / PORT PERRY STAR Investigators with the Durham Regional Police Traffic Management Unit check out a 2001 Honda motorcycle involved in last weekend's fatal accident near Blackstock which killed a Whitby man. A Cartwright East Quarter Line man has-been charged in relation to the accident. Motorcycle rider killed after trying to avoid a truck A Whitby man was killed instantly last week- end in a tragic accident that took place near Blackstock. Emergency crews responded to the Cartwright East Quarter Line, near Devitts Rd., around 3 p.m. on Saturday (June 2) after an accident involving a motorcycle and a pickup truck was report- ed. As a result of the acci- dent, however, David Charles Kett, a 24-year-old Whitby resident who was operating a 2001 Honda PC3 motorcycle, was killed instantly and pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, say police. According to a report from the Durham Regional Police Traffic Management Unit, Mr. Kett was travel- ling southbound on the Quarter Line when a north- bound 1987 Chev pickup truck crossed the center- line and drove onto the west shoulder. As the pickup truck completed the maneuver, Mr. Kett came over a hill and was forced to take eva- sive action. According to police, Mr. Kett lost control and sepa- rated from his motorcycle. Neighbours in nearby houses responded to the crash and attempted to assist Mr. Kett until emer- gency crews arrived. The road was closed for several hours while traffic management unit officers from the Durham police service investigated the accident. Durham Regional Police have charged Michael DeJong, a resident of the Cartwright East Quarter Line, with careless driving. He will appear in an Oshawa court on July 11.
