Mr. Kane is charged with criminal negligence causing death (two counts), impaired: driving. causing death (two counts). and failure to remain at the scene of an acciderit (two counts), in connection with an accident on Island Rd. on March 2. - Durham Regional Police reported:a 'Chevrolet Tahoe struck a Cavalier dri- "ven by 60-year-old Ellen Browne of . Pickering. : ARR Mrs. Browne's vehicle then veered - into the oncoming northbound lanes; colliding with 4 Pontiac Grand Am dri- ven by John Piccitto, 48, of Oshawa. Mrs. Browne and Mr. Piccitto died at the scene as a result of the force of the collision. : The Tahoe's three occupants were questioned by police, and Mr. Kane was charged. Shawn Wesley Eade, 35, the regis- 'tered owner of the new model sport utility vehicle, faces no charges in relation to the collision. A media ban prevents disclosure . of any evidence given in any of Mr. Kane's bail appearances, but a source with the police Traffic Management Unit said investigating officers were surprised they were not informed that Mr. Kane would appear for a bail review hearing. Norm Dagenais, a representative of developer Stockworth MBG, appeared before council yesterday to outline plans for the proposal, which will see Canadian Tire pro- ceeding with a new plaza south of town without a Sobey's store. Plans originally had Canadian Tire partner- ing with Sobey's to build a new IGA store on the site, off Simcoe St. south of town. We've got the story on page 3. Search for local woman continues By Rik Davie Port Perry Star Jami Furnandez was a bright and out- spoken young mother trying to finish high school and raise an 18-month-old son. The battles she - waged were mostly with herself, according to her mother. The young woman strug- gled to bring up her son, attend school, make a home without the help of her boy's father, and still be an I8-year-old once in a while. On an autumn morning when the young woman walked her younger brother to school from her Borelia Co-op home, then dropped her son off at the day care centre across from Port Perry High School, it was the start of a typical day.
