Shawn Wesley Eade, 35, of Hood Dr., a well-known member of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island band council, was charged with 13 criminal offenses after police surrounded his home shortly after the shooting. On Friday, June 15 at about 1:45 a.m., police responded to a 911 report of a suspicious man parked in a driveway on Demara Rd. Durham Regional Police said a male occupant of the house was on the phone with emergency operators when a bullet crashed through a window, narrowly missing the victim and two other people in the home. Police are still looking for a .22 calibre rifle believed to have been fired at the scene. An Oshawa Justice of the Peace released Mr. Eade late Friday afternoon. During a three-hour bail hearing court heard details of the events on the Island that night. They cannot be reported because of a court- ordered media ban. Justice Linda Kay released Mr. Eade on a $50,000 bond with a strict list of requirements. He must remain at a relative's home out of Durham Region, returning only for lawyer and court appoint- ments. He must give Durham Regional Police 24 hours notice of his return to the region. Mr. Eade may pos- sess no alcohol, and have no association with persons in relation to his case, and he must not possess firearms or explosives, until the allegations against him are heard. Mr. Eade face charges of: a Threatening (two counts) Q Assault with a weapon 0 Mischief endangering life (three counts) a Discharging a firearm with intent to do harm a Careless use of a weapon Q Pointing a firearm a Unlawful possession of a firearm in a motor vehi- cle 0 Careless storage of ammunition. Police are still seeking the public's help in locating a .22 calibre rifle allegedly used in the incident. Councillors want water tests to include Nonquon Scugog Township is negotiating with officials to have water from the Nonquon River tested by the regional health department. Ward 2 Councillor Marilyn Pearce told mem- bers of the townships' environmental commit- tee Monday that she had been in contact with Tony Wong of the Durham Region Health Department. It is hoped that the department will add test- ing of the Nonquon River Moffatt just north of Port Perry and flows into the Nonquon River, said the to its list of sampling.
