As staff and students were busy preparing for the summer holidays last week, Mr. Bunt was taking his time cleaning out his spacious office last Thursday and taking care of some last minute details. "This is my last day," said the 54-year-old Oshawa resi- dent. "I'm getting things signed off so | can walk out the door with nothing left to do. "It's been five great years, and 1 can think of no better place to end my career." Mr. Bunt arrived in Port Perry in 1996, after being rotat- ed out of St. Joseph Gould Catholic School in Uxbridge where he held the vice-princi- pal's role. Prior to that, he held the same position in an Oshawa separate school. 'His career began in Scarborough, where he first taught a Grade 5 class in 1966. Since then, he spent 23 years with the Toronto Catholic school board before switching to the Durham separate school board in 1989, where he has remained for the past 12 years. "l shifted school boards because of the pressures of driving to the Toronto area each day and because the (Durham) board was growing. It was a positive change for me." Now, 35 years later, Mr. Bunt's decided to call it quits. "I'm at my full retirement factor. 1 can go now," he said. "I'm looking forward to it with mixed emotions; you can't do something for 35 years unless you love doing it. But, there comes a time when you have to let it go to younger people." He'll be replaced in the fall by Jamie Ketterick. "This is an absolutely fan- tastic place. You can't ask for a more supportive community or for better staff or students." As for his future, Mr. Bunt says there are no major plans other than just to relax. "I'll come back to visit from time to time and I'll do some golfing and woodworking," he said, before quickly adding: "And I'll try and get the house tidy before my wife comcs home from work."
