The action takes place at 7:30 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday evening, July 6 and 7. St. John's Anglican Church News On Thursday, June 28 in St. John's Church in Blackstock the Right Rev. Douglas C. Blackwell, Area Bishop of Trent-Durham, ordained Andrew Barlow a Deacon. . This event was doubly significant in the 162 year history of the parish; it was the first ordi- nation service ever con- ducted in St. John's and Andrew is the first Deacon to serve the parish and community. St. John's parishioners and friends from the com- munity were joined by members of the communi- ty of Deacons, a number of priests and many old friends and colleagues who came to support Andrew and to rejoice with him on this occasion. Among those who pre- sented Andrew to the Bishop for ordination were his wife Nancy, and daugh- ters Jennifer and Kathryn. They were joined by Father Hugh, clergy friends and parish representa- tives. The service was spiritu- al, emotional and a cere- monial treat. The music, chosen by Andrew, was great and the ceremonies, directed by The Venerable Colin Johnson, Archdeacon of York, were impressive. Among the highlights were a wonderful solo by Ruth Welham-Umphrey, a very humorous yet inspirational event by Rev. Peter Hill and a marvellous anthem by St. John's Choir. One of the most memo- rable moments came when following the ordination ceremony, Andrew donned the vestments of a Deacon; there was gasp of delight from all present when he appeared attired in a gar- ment of cloth of gold, with deep red trimmings. Andrew had received this as an ordination gift from a priest who is a long time friend and colleague. This Dalmatic, as it is called, is thought to be more than 100 years old. The golden version would be worn only on the great feasts of the church: Christmas, Epiphany, Easter and of course ordination. As is the custom at St. John's the service was fol- lowed by a gathering in the Parish Hall and true to another St. John's tradition a feature of the gathering was a large beautifully decorated and quite deli- cious cake, which didn't last long. Andrew has been a member of St. John's con- gregation for seven years. He holds a Doctorate in Psychology and has a pri- Prince Albert! Another Teenager Now Lives Here!!
