2 - PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesda" July 10, 2001 "Scugog's Community Newspaper of Choice" A visit fromVictoria Angels set to hold bash at Caesarea compound? By Rik Davie Port Penty Star Police sources in Durham Region are remaining tight-lipped about rumours of a large gathering of Hells Angels members in Caesarea, scheduled for the weekend of July 28. Reports have surfaced of tickets being sold among bikers for an event on the for- mer Para-Dice Riders property, at the lake- front village. 4t is rumoured that Angels may be showing up from as far away as Winnipeg. The party, to be held on what is now being referred to as Hells Half Acre, will carry on a tradition of an annual biker get- © together begun. by the Para-Dice Riders, whose membership has been absorbed by the Hells Angels. At parties in the past, hundreds of outlaw bike club members have converged on Caesarea, to be met - with police roadblocks, Police sources refused to confirm that July 28 is the date for this years gathering. It would be the first major run to Caesarea since several Ontario clubs, including Para-Dice Riders and Satans Choice, became members of the Hell's Angels in "patch-over' ceremonies during the past year. There was a heavy police presence for a party held at the old Satans Choice club- house - now owned by the Hells Angels - in south Oshawa earlier this spring. Police forces across the province, sup- ported by Ontario's "Special Squad "and - Quebec's "Wolverines", have kept close watch on the movements of identified Angels in the aftermath of a bloody three- year turf war in Quebec. "Traditionally, Durham Regional Police stop known club members and probation- ary members as well as associates going into Caesarea, and check for Highway - Traffic Act violations while gathering intel- ligence on the group. Air-1, the Durham Regional Police helicopter, tracks groups of bikers as they enter Durham Region for 'the very annual ride. Last year more than 100 people were stopped. A business owner summed it up by say- ing, "We didn't know these people, but our kids knew these kids. "Our kids went to school with them. That makes those boys part of the community, doesn't it?" But automotive specialists caution that there can be a direct link between a poorly operating cooling system and increased fuel consump- tion. That's because the role of the cooling system is to keep a vehicle's engine at its peak operating tempera- ture, where maximum fuel efficiency is achieved. Outside this range, fuel con- sumption will increase - and that means higher oper- ating costs and more envi- ronmentally harmful exhaust emissions. Following a simple main- tenance routine can help ensure optimal perfor- mance of your vehicle's cooling system and avoid nasty on-the-road surprises. Monitoring the coolant level, checking hoses for cracks or loose clamps, and inspecting belts for cracks and cuts are basic steps you can take to maximize engine performance and fuel effi- ciency. Your vehicle's cooling system should also be flushed at regular intervals, and the coolant replaced with fresh solution. Consult your owner's manual for the type of coolant required and the recommended fre- quency of system flushing.
