READERS' CHOICE AWARDS Tuesday, July 10, 2001 BARBARA PORTER - MARIGOLD TRAVEL From tours to fun in the sun, this agent has got your travel needs covered What started as a fundraising venture for Barbara Porter a few years ago later led her to Marigold Travel, two years ago. She has excelled so much in her travel organizing role that she was recently named the Best Travel Agent in the recent Reader's Choice survey. Barbara's touring career began in 1985 when she orga- nized a fundraising bus tour for the Kirk Guild of Burns Presbyterian Church in Ashburn. Since then she has been specializing in group tours, initially with another travel agency but, since the summer of 1999, she's been with Marigold Travel in Port Perry. Although her title is Bus Tour Manager she has organized group trips on cruises as well as by bus. While many of the people on her tours are seniors, any age is welcome to participate. "The youngest traveller has been two years old and the oldest, 100," says Barbara. And like her first endeavour, many of her excursions are fundraising efforts sponsored by various organizations. Early this fal! Barbara will be leading a bus tour to the Amish country in Pennsylvania where everyone will enjoy the final season of the musical, "Noah". Another upcoming tour is a bus trip to the Blue Ridge Mountains, Dollywood and The Great Smoky Mountains. Very popular are trips to Branson, Missouri in November, just in time for the Christmas shows. Three Branson trips are planned for this coming November, with two already sold out. Also in November, there is a Caribbean cruise. December brings a trip to New York City featuring the Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular with the Rockettes. Several day trips are planned as well. "I enjoy my work so much. You meet so many wonder- ful people in this role," Barbara says. And she has high praise for Shirley Boddington, Laura Webster and Mary Schneider, owners of Marigold Travel. "They are all fun gals to work with". When she isn't busy on tours she does presentations for groups that are considering sponsoring trips. If any club or other organization would like to make money for special projects, you should consider a group tour led by Barbara. After all, she's been named the best travel agent in the recent Reader's Choice survey. If you are ever in doubt about something you usually ask to get the answer. The same should hold true regarding our wardrobe or about the home: If you are ever in doubt about certain stains just ask the experts at Lakeview Dry Cleaners. If we don't know the answer we will find out for you, says owner Eleanor Buckler. When you discover all the services Lakeview Dry Cleaners offers then you will readily see why it was named the best dry cleaners in the Reader's Choice Survey. The plant offers many conveniences, such as same day service on dry cleaning only, shirt laundry, alter- ations and repairs. A popular assistance is the wash, dry and fold service. Suedes and leathers are sent out. Self-rug cleaning is a new service just added. Just purchase the Hagery cleaning products and the loan of LAKEVIEW DRY CLEANERS Don't take a chance when cleaning your wardrobe; consult a professional the machine is free. If you don't want to tackle this job yourself, area rugs can be brought in for cleaning or arrangements can be made for sprucing up your wall-to- wall carpets at home. An outlet for blind cleaning and repairs, Lakeview Dry Cleaners does measuring for win- dow coverings, as well. Now that the prom and graduation parties are over the wedding season is upon us. Be sure to protect your investment by having your clothes cleaned. Moths are particularly attracted to soiled clothing, such as silks, linen, wool and cottons. In business now for over || years in Port Perry, a new generation is now helping out at the plant. Eleanor's grandchildren help out occasionally as they learn differ- ent aspects of running the business. "We're very grateful to the community's patronage over the years," Eleanor says. "So many customers have become friends."
