As the new president of the Port Perry Rotary Club, Mr. Lawrence listed increasing the number of club members as one of the objectives of his year- long term, and that includes attracting more women to the club. "There's a few things I'd like to see get done, but adding more members to the club is pretty high up there," said Mr. Lawrence last week. Currently, there are 33 Rotary members here, including 30 men and three women. "We really need more women," Lawrence. "I'd like to see more women join our club." As for his other priori- ties, Mr. Lawrence said he'd like to see the Port Perry chapter get more involved with district and international work, and finish off the local Rotary Club nature park. He als. wants to look into the idea of helping raise funds for the new regional cancer centre in Oshawa, and improve on the club's golf tourna- ment. The two officials paid a visit to the Port Perry club last Wednesday evening, where they met with Mr. Lawrence. - should stay relatively the same, said Mr. Lawrence. "I was with the Kinsmen for many, many years, but I got too old," said Mr. Lawrence with a laugh. "They have an age maximum, so lhad to move on to another ser- vice club and Rotary found me acceptable." A well-known and pop- ular face around the town- ship, Mr. Lawrence ran the Bruton's Big V pharmacy here in Port Perry for years before moving north to Parry Sound for five years. He recently returned home to Scugog more than three years ago, and is now running the Durham Pharmacy at the Medical Associates build- ing. He served one year as vice-president behind outgoing president Dennis Bayley, and now takes over as Port Perry's highest-ranking club member. "l spent three years with Rotary in Port Peny and then five years with the Parry Sound club and now three years again here in Port Perry," said Mr. Lawrence. "I believe that if you live in a community you have to be involved in the community," he said. "Involvement in a commu- nity is very important." On Sunday, July 29 the Scugog Shores Historical Museum will be having its second annual Old Fashioned Fun Day. The kids will enjoy var- "ious activities - bubbles, a clogging show, the nail challenge, butter making, races, a spelling bee and much, much more.
