"Certainly the number of people | spoke with over the weekend seemed positive about it, enough so that I would consider it a success," said JoAnne Cerovich, president of the Scugog Chamber of Commerce. "The merchants seemed really happy, and the town was just jumping. From my personal view I think it was an unqualified success." This year's edition of Port Perry's time the Scugog Chamber of Commerce and the Business Improvement Area (BIA) have joined as partners to host the event. Over the carnival's 30-plus years - it was first known as Western Weekend before becoming Festival Days - it has always been organized by the Chamber. A number of changes were made to the event, primarily relocating the fes- tival back downtown from the Port Perry Fairgrounds, where it was held last year, and shortening its duration. Please turn to page 12 ~~ midsummer festival - marks -the first- } Woman in abuse case makes appearance By Rik Davie Port Perry Star One of two Blackstock parents charged in a child abuse case made another appearance in court yesterday. Both remain in custody pending the posting of bail. The lawyer for the couple said they could be released from jail this week. A man, aged 49, and his 40-year-old wife have been charged with a string of offenses after allegations that two teenaged boys living in a rural home near Blackstock have been kept in PT Cruiser 3 Tailgate Party! 4 & ye E a EN cages and deprived of proper nourishment. The details of the charges cannot be made public under a media ban on evidence given at the pair's bail hearing. The charges came after Durham Children's Aid Society workers contacted Durham Regional Police on June 29 with allegations the CAS had received from informants. As a result of the visit, the children were removed from the home and are currently in the custody of the CAS.
