A birthday party in honour of Merrill Van Camp's 75th birthday will be held at the Rec. Centre next Sunday afternoon in the form of a "come and go" from 2-4 p.m. Best wishes only please. Happy birthday Merrill. : A fine congregation gathered at the Blackstock United Church for the combined Nestleton Blackstock United Service on Sunday morning. Guest speaker was Ralph Werry of Enniskillen who delivered a thoughtful message. Special music was provided by The Larmer family - a quartet of Ralph, Dave, Robert and Steven - three generations. Next Sunday service will again be at 9:45 a.m. with Ralph Werry back again and also special music. Joy Rudkin and twin babies arrived home on the weekend. Best wishes are extended to Joy, lan and babies. Congratulations to Kevin and Janice Irwin at the south end of the village on the arrival of their first child, a baby girl. Helen Smith from Evangel Hall, Toronto led in morning worship at Br rns Church on Sunday. She delivered a most inspiring sermon "God's Silence" text being from Isaiah 58, vs. 3. Ushers for Sunday were Ruth Oliver and Ethel Smith. Next Sunday, orice again we welcome Allyson Macleod from Keswick. In two weeks time, our minis- ter Graeme Illman will return to us following his vaca- tion. Keep in mind the outdoor service on Sunday, Aug. 12 to be held in Margaret Davis' garden at 10 a.m. Following the service we will all enjoy a yummy pot thing for the first course, and a favourite dessert. We were pleased to have Elsie worship with us at Burns a week ago. Theo and Joan Knight enjoyed a three day mys-. tery trip last week taking them to Windsor and points of interest. On their return home they stopped at the CN Tower and enjoyed dinner in the dining room overlooking the big city. RIK DAVIE / PORT PERRY STAR Ella the sheep dog was in top form for the sheep dog trials, held last weekend as part of the kick-off to the Highlands of Durham Games. The games continue in Uxbridge and Port Perry this weekend. Ella, and handler Viki Kidd were in first place when they took time out for the camera Saturday. The trials were held at the farm of Dr. Fred Cotie on Blue Mountain Rd. e "Port Peity Rébekah Lodge news. they journeyed on to New York City where they will be spending some time at the United Nations Sessions. On their return, each student delegate will be responsible for reporting to the various lodges about information and experience gained while there. By R. Strong Approximately 35 stu- dents from Michigan and different areas in Ontario enjoyed a hearty lunch hosted by the Port Perry Rebekah Lodge, before heading off on their trip to New York City. After travelling to. Ottawa and taking in vari- ous points of interest, Plans for the Caesarea Regatta are progressing Caesarea Ratepayers Our Caesarea Ratepayers meeting was well attended last Thursday night. We passed a number of bills which had to be paid. Lynn Benson, our new treasurer, did a remarkable job of bringing the books up to date. We were all set to say that our Canada Day celebration would be held on Saturday, Aug. 18 when Ron Moore stated that he had made plans for the evening with the young people of the area. So, Caesarea Ratepayers Canada Day celebrations, after two rain-outs, will be held on Sunday, Sept. 2, Labour Day weekend, at 7:30 p.m. at the hall. The meeting expressed thanks to the committee for the accomplishments of beautifying our village. The next meeting of the Caesarea Ratepayers is Thursday, Aug. 23 at 7:30 p.m. at 20 Putsey Drive. The Ron Moore Night All young people 12 to 18 are invited to visit Mosport Race Track on Aug. 18. A free bus trip has been arranged by Ron and the only expense is the $5 admission fee. The bus starts at Reid's in Port Perry at 5 p.m. stops at the Caesarea Fire Hall at 5:30 p.m., then stops at Cartwright High School shortly thereafter and will return home around 10 p.m. or so. Children under 12 are free and must be accompanied by an adult who must pay the admis- sion fee. I'm sure we are all thankful for this outing. For more information, call Ron at 905-986- 5656. Caesarea Christian Fellowship The church door was open, so I stopped to have a peek. All the CAESAREA 4 by '° Albert Putsey drywall or wood lath and plaster has been removed throughout the church so we see a skeleton of wood joist and roof rafters and the excellent workmanship which went into the church before cranes, as we know them today. The church was blessed with an excellent day last Saturday when they held their first yard sale. The members wish to thank all merchants, residents and oth- ers who contributed to making this a $700 profitable day. Also, they wish to thank all those who purchased items and those who worked so hard to make this sale a success. The members aim at having an official opening on Thanksgiving Sunday if all plans continue on schedule. Another thank you goes to Ruth Wardlaw for storing items at "Bin Dun." Blackstock and District Lions Club Watch for the Lions Club lion float in the parade at the Regatta again this year. Lions will meet again at Merlin's at 9 am. to assemble the float and organize the music. See you at the parade. The Lake Scugog Regatta Association From what we understand, all things are going forth on sched- ule to have another great regatta on the Civic Holiday weekend. This coming weekend we should see canvassers out looking for your support, so open your hearts and your wallet. This week we were glad to hear that Miss Nottingham has returned home from the hospital. Best wishes to you. And, we are sorry to hear that Mrs. Mary Wilkenson is still in hospital. We are pleased to hear that Tom Dean has been trans- ferred from St. Michael's Hospital to Lakeridge Health, Oshawa.
