Hells Angels members and associates con- verged on Caesarea this weekend, for an annual biker bash tradition that was begun here years ago by the former Para-Dice Riders club. The Appearance of new street gang cause for concern: police By Rik Davie Port Perry Star A new group that has appeared on the Durham scene is of concem to police here. For several months, there have been rumours of a street-level gang calling themselves the 987s operat- ing out of the Bowmanville- Newcastle area that police sources say could be the beginnings of a group that's affiliated with the Hells Angels. Saturday at the huge rally and party held in Caesarea by the Hells Angels Ontario outlaw bike club, youths wearing patches with 987 on them were seen stopped at a police roadblock. Some 400 of the club's members, associates, probationary members and hangers-on gathered here for the bash. According to sources close to police information gathering units, it is believed that the street gang is using the telephone exchange of the Bowmanville-Newcastle area (987) to denote their territory. The crest appeared as a shield with the numbers 987 in the center. Police refuse to confirm or deny that the 987s are a street-level affiliate of any other outlaw motorcycle club, only that they are watching the progress of the newly-formed group careful- ly.
