"Scugog"s Community Newspaper of Choice" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, July 31, 2001 - 1§ Police, Angels square off again In Caesarea From page 1 -Mr. Guindon was not charged or detained by police. Insp. Deitmar Schoenrock of 26 Division, who was present through- out the day at the road block Saturday, said sev- eral charges were laid against other bikers. "Approximately 80 charges were laid under the (Highway Traffic Act); 10 helmets were seized as substandard," Insp. Schoenrock . said. "And there were two drug arrests, as well as one arrest on an outstanding warrant." Insp. Schoenrock said he considers the annual showdown between the bikers and police - a cost- ly and disruptive exercise - money well spent. "There are ways | would rather deploy my men," Insp. Schoenrock said. "But we would be negli- gent in our responsibility Register for baby show The Port Perry Agricultural Fair is fast approaching, (Sept. 2 and 3). This year's baby con- test will consist of new age groups. The categories are one to three months, four to six months, seven to nine months, 10 to 12 months and 13 to 15 months. This year, both the fresh cut flower arrangement winner and the dried flower arrangement winner will each be awarded $60 donated by Mike and Laurie Freeman, Scugog Transit and Freeman Bus Line. For rules and regulations Call Shirley Hunter at 905-985-3819. for public safety if we did not attend this size of a gathering." The party took place at the same time of the sum- mer as the former Para- Dice Riders club bash was always held in Caesarea. It was one of the largest gatherings of Hells Angels members since the Para- Dice Riders and several other =~ Ontario clubs, including the Satan's Choice, joined the mas- sive Angels club. These members, now "patched over" to the Angels, represent the highest concentration of members of the notorious ¢riminal organization in Canada. Also noted at the road- side stop were several members of the Vagabonds Motorcycle Club, and members of the Hells Angels Nomad chap- ter out of Lanark County. Nomads are said to be Hells Angels with no par- ticular area of operation Two members of the Hells Angels joke with police officers while being detained at a road block Saturday on their way to Caesarea. The and their presence, according to police, is usu- ally a sign that a recruit- ment drive is under way. This may be just the beginning of Hells Angels' gatherings here, if rumours now circulating are true. Sources say that another party may take place as early as this weekend as part of a fundraising effort to raise money for the legal bills of a Hells Angels member currently in jail in Quebec. Police refuse to say if they expect another large gathering in the North Durham area soon.
