Ford and Diana Goller were mar- ried in a beautiful wedding at the Blackstock United Church. The service was conducted by Rev. Phil Hobbs now of Millbrook. Following a social time at the home of the groom's parents, Fred and Marg Ford, the reception and dance was held at the Royal Ashburn Golf Club (formerly Thunderbird). Guests at the wedding were Fred's mother and sister from British Columbia and Marg's mother of Deseronto. Best wish- es are extended to R.]. and Diana for a lifetime of happiness together. Tim and Leanne Lang and Erin have returned home for an enjoyable trip to Western Canada to Banff and Jasper. They visited an uncle in Calgary and aunt in Thunder Bay. A huge crowd of family and friends visited an Open House honoring Merrill VanCamp on the occasion of his 75th birthday. Merrill's family, Dale and Janet VanCamp and their family, Mary, Michael and David of Blackstock, Marie Attfield and Scott of Dale, British Columbia, and Valerie and Ron Linton, Emily and Maggie of Raglan were very busy organizing the happy event. Friends came from the many interests in his life. Following the Open House about 70 family and close friends enjoyed din- ner together at the Recreation Centre. Happy birthday greet- ings to you, Merrill. Annie Dorrell is home again from a most enjoyable trip to Ireland. Better health is wished for A Joyce Kelly sf . Nancy Bryans who is currently in Port Perry Hospital. On Monday, Ruth and Bill Marconi, Merrill and Jean VanCamp, Vern and Vera Asselstine, Aileen VanCamp travelled to Chatsworth to attend the funeral of their close friend, Carl Bye, who spent the winter in the same park in Florida and who passed away very unexpectedly on Friday. Better health is wished for Pat ATV pull added to this year's Blackstock Fair Sleep who recently suffered a broken ankle. What a way to slow down, Pat! Ross and Irene Vanclief of Corbyville spent several days last week visiting their friends Cecil and Marie Gibson. Please note that the mid- week service at St. John's Anglican Church has been changed to Thursday evening from Tuesday evening. Also please make a note that the annual Memorial Decoration Day will be held on September 9 at St. John's Cemetery. The seniors luncheon is on Thursday, August 2. There were 10 tables at the Tuesday evening card party with the following winners - Glen Lowery, Doris Manns, Teresa Berker, Alden Hubbard, Roy Werry, and Amanda Davis. A new feature at the Blackstock Fair this year will be an ATV pull where these popular machines will be pulling a small transfer sled. This year the Blackstock United Church has changed the date of the Beef Supper from Fair Day to September 16. The Fair Board will be having a beef on a bun dinner on the grounds. Regatta The big news this week is the 73rd annual Lake Scugog Regatta at Caesarea. The programs are out and I've seen them at Sunnyside Market. One of the new items on the list is Trudalu's Jumping Castle. Regatta time is a sign that we're half way through the summer and with little rain during July, let's hope it stays away for Regatta weekend. | wish this hard-working group the very best for their great effort. My volunteers were lucky enough, weather- wise, to complete that last quarter on Regional Road 57 of grass-cutting on the boulevard. The Bikers We sure had a great weekend with lots of activ- ity around town. The police, | feel, did an excel- lent job and we were not inconvenienced too much. After all, they were here to protect us against some minor event which could have exploded into a major event. Trust every- one had a great time. Allyson MacLeod from Keswick led in wor- ship at Burns Church on Sunday. Our minister Graeme Illman and his wife Karen will be back next Sunday, August 5. However, we have enjoyed our guest minis- ters throughout this month of July. On Sunday, August 12, we will all enjoy an out- door church service at 10 am. in the garden of Margaret Davis. Following the service, a potluck meal will be served. Each "family to bring something for first course and a dessert. Also, bring along your lawn chairs and cut- lery. A beverage will be provided. Vacation Bible School begins on Aug. 7 By Clara Dowson Scugog Island News Service at the Scugog Island United Church on Sunday was held outdoors and was very well attended under the leadership of Rev. Lockhart. Several visi- tors were welcomed. Special musician was Nels Reader, who played a very nice selection on his har- monica. Next Sunday's guest speaker will be Rev. Glen Jackson. Vacation Bible School at S.LU.C. starts August 7-10. The theme is "Stories of Jesus" with organizers Gloria Fralick and Carol Edgar. Scugog Island Women's Institute met last Wednesday evening at the Island Hall with 15 mem- bers and three visitors. President Gloria Fralick welcomed all and opened in usual singing of the Institute Ode, repeating the Mary Stewart Collect. Roll call - "Where would you be this afternoon if you hadn't come here?" Helen Redman read a timely piece of poetry on the W.I. Helen Redman is in charge of the W.I. booth at the Port Perry Fair, which is only for two days this year, Sunday and Monday. So girls, don't forget your promise of cookies. Marion's group in charge ran some bingo games and everyone went home with a prize. One of our members, Joan Morris had surgery last week, lets see she gets many cards. A delicious lunch of breads, cheese, etc. was served. Next regular meeting will be September 19.
