Police were looking into an accident there, which occurred shortly after 2 p.m. that day. Two people were injured in the acci- dent, including one woman who was airlifted to a Toronto hospital with seri- ous injuries. The SIU is a branch of the Attorney General's office which investigates police actions that result in the death or serious injury of civilians. They have come under fire in the past from police associations who are critical of their investigative methods and mandate. According to SIU offi- cials, the accident occurred when a motorcy- cle traveling at a high rate of speed failed to stop for a police cruiser parked in the centre of the road. The police vehicle had its emergency lights activated at the time and traffic cones were nearby.
