"Scugog"s Community Newspaper of Choice" PORT PERRY STAR - Wednesday, September §, 2001 - 9 Youth's hand got caught in a grain auger Island boy rushed to hospital with severe hand injuries Scugog Firefighters acted quickly Sunday evening to extricate the hand of a six-year-old child from a grain auger. Durham Regional Police reported that fire, ambulance and fire crews responded to a 911 call at 17251 Island Rd. after reports that a six-year-old boy helping to prepare for the arrival of chicks at a poultry operation caught his hand in the auger used to move grain in the barn. Members of the Scugog fire rescue unit managed to remove the badly lac- erated hand from the machinery and Durham Regional Police officers at the scene raced to block intersections as an ambu- lance sped to Port Perry hospital with the injured boy and his frantic mother aboard. Reports say that the middle two fingers of the hand were badly lacerat- ed but that the injuries are not life-threatening.
