"Scugog"s Community Newspaper of Choice" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, September 25, 2001 - 17 New floor causing timing problems Wado Kai Karate registration delayed until Sept. 30 By Frank Murphy The Port Perry Wado Kai Karate Club's 27th annual registration night has been delayed by the installation of a new floor at the Latcham Centre. It will be held on Sunday, Sept. 30, 7 p.m. at the cen- tre. The Karate Club has been practicing tradition- al Japanese karate at the Latcham Centre for the past 18 years and for 27 years in Port Perry. "We teach a classical style of karate that concentrates on the fundamentals - the surest route to success," says head instructor and third degree Black Belt, Sensei Ron Ruskay. Wado Kai Karate is practiced world wide not simply as a form of self- defense, but as an excel- lent means to learn aware- ness and quick thinking, and to promote physical and mental health. "Our club is one of 30 affiliates of the Toronto Wado Kai Club, all of which are ded- icated to providing tradi- tional karate training as economically as possible. We invite everyone from six to 60 to visit our club at the Latcham Centre to see our classes in action, and to join in." The group of Carol Edgar.and Gloria Fralick and Rev. Lockhart have planned this rally, put it into music with Bonnie Bell on the piano and its sounded like itll be worth either being a driver or a back seat driver. Georgina Ice to provide the opposition on Sunday From Page 16 The GM spoke highly of the fine training camp by Port Perry native Jordan Froates, a l6-year-old who stepped up late last year to play sever- al solid games for the MoJacks. He said Froates may get some- attention in future Junior hockey drafts, but the MoJacks are very pleased to have him in the lineup this year. And another Port Perry native, Adam Jones, will sport the captain's C when the season opens this weekend. Jones, 21, is the only overager on the squad to date and is starting his fourth season with the team. Parliament said the club is looking to the kind of leadership he can provide on a team with 10 rookies. He'll likely be teamed with another MoJack veteran, Ryan McQuade, a tal- ented sniper who played his minor hockey in this community. With the line-up now set, Parliament said the coaches will work this week on special teams, break-out patterns and defensive strategies in preparation for the two weekend games. The Central Jr. C League will feature six teams this season and each sauad will play a home and home series with Campbellford of the Eastern League. Defending League champion Uxbridge Bruins are expected to ice another strong team this season and the Lakefield Chiefs are also touted as one of the "teams to beat." MoJack fans planning to attend the home opener are reminded that the faceoff is at 2:30 p.m. this coming Sunday afternoon with the Georgina Ice providing the opposition. hi Results from annual Greenbank 3-Pitch tourney The Annual Greenbank 3 Pitch Tournament was held Sept. 15-16.
