Coming Events sponsored by... Abuse prevention October is Child Abuse prevention Month. In 1992, the Durham Children's Aid Society introduced the Purple Ribbon campaign, which has been adopted by other Children's Aid Societies to promote this campaign across Ontario. You will see purple rib- bons all over Ontario, reminding you that it is everyone's responsibility to prevent child abuse and neglect. Purple rib- bons will be available at the CAS office or at partic- ipating businesses throughout Durham Region. Information will be distributed regarding the devastating effects of child abuse and neglect, teaching you how to iden- tify abuse and neglect, and when to report your concerns, and explaining the services provided by the CAS. As of June 30, there were 650 children and youth in care of the Durham CAS - close a to total of 771 for all of last year. Many need your assistance to help them build a better future. Help is needed to dis- tribute ribbons and pro- mote the campaign. If you have a business or organi- zation, you can help by placing a donation and ribbon distribution box at your store or office.
