Sympathy to the com- munity is extended to Louise and Don Swain, Stacey and Scott on the passing of Louise's mother, Mrs. Irene Moore of Port Perry last week. Our thoughts are with her brother, Jim and Hazel Coates as well as her many other relatives and friends in the community. Sympathy is also extended to Muriel Wotten on the passing of her sister Jean Brouillette of Lindsay as the result of a serious stroke. On Thursday, Blackstock Fair president Barry Van Camp, secretary Janice Beechey, Jean and Merrill Van Camp and Joyce Kelly attended the O.AAS. District 4 meeting in Sunderland. Blackstock Fair date for 2002 was con- firmed as Aug. 23 and 24. At the United Church a Halloween Family Service was held with members of the Sunday School taking part. The various readings showed how the Halloween customs originated. It was Utica and Epsom News announced that there will be no service at the United Church on Nov. II. Remembrance Day Service will be 10:15 a.m. at the Rec. Centre followed by the customary laying of wreaths at the Cenotaph at 11 a.m. At the St. John's Anglican Church, the sacrament of baptism was conducted by Rev. Hugh Kernohan when Dylan Richard, younger son of Marilyn and Mel Tobin, was received. Following church, Don and Marjorie Green hosted a family gath- ering when the Green clan was joined by Mel's par- ents, Millie Brown and Rev. Hugh and Peggy Kernohan to celebrate this important event. Public School. Plans were readily made to meet on Monday at Epsom Church to try to avert the board of education's decision. The school and churches are our community and most want their children to be educated here instead of being bussed ever further away. Well, most of us set our clocks back one hour before retiring on Saturday night and it was nice to gain that extra hour. My question is this - how do you program your dog to sleep in an hour longer? This Wednesday evening we will all get visits from those little ghosts and goblins, witches and princesses. | look forward to this every year. Be careful as you drive along the dark roads because these children are precious. Sunday, Nov. 4 is a joint service of the charge and includes a special covenanting service for Rev. Lush as well as communion. There will be a special offering in sup- port of the ongoing relief efforts for the Afghan refugees. Service is at Epsom at || a.m. Church at noon. It will be a time- ly seminar on the subject of pills, etc. when Doug Brown of Shopper's Drug Mart will be giving a presentation on the proper way to deal with medication. On Sunday evening the Festival of Evensong for the Feast of All Saints was held at the St. John's Anglican Church when members of the other churches of the community joined the fel- lowship. The service con- sisted of readings, singing and special music by the United Church and the St. John's choirs including one anthem of the combined choirs. Following the great service a time of fellowship was enjoyed over refresh- ments. Pine Ridge Garden Club meets Nov. 6 CAESAREA Th by r Albert Putsey | guess we have all felt a great change in the weath- er, and with daylight sav- ing coming to an end we all feel that winter is near. Caesarea Hall Board News Saturday night was the great Halloween social night at the hall with the dances, etc. From all accounts it was a very friendly, successful evening. This Thursday is euchre night. The next meeting for the hall board will be Tuesday, Nov. 13. Caesarea Ratepayer's Association We held our meeting last Thursday night and ironed out our profit or loss, and our Canada Day Celebration which was postponed three times due to weather. I'm glad to report that neither the church group or ourselves had a loss, but neither did we make any money. The subject of a stop at our main four corners came up again and we were unanimous in asking that Pier Street going south at least be made a stop. Cars on Cedar Grove at this corner do not have good visibility with the fence, trees and cars with boat trailers lining the west side of Pier Street. We will try again. Blackstock Lions Club Blackstock and District Lions wish to extend their sympathy to the family and friends of Lion Don Calvert, president »f the Goodwood Lions Club who passed away last week. He'll be missed. Our next meeting is Wednesday, Nov. 7 at the Rec. Hall. It is the official visit of our region chair, Lion Paul Taylor, and it is an information night for parents and youth to hear more about our proposed new Leo Club.
