Later, word came from some very disgruntled foundation members that other cash grabs were afoot. The last situation could see the Port Perry Hospital Auxiliary lose more than $6,000-a-year if Lakeridge Health Corporation officials follow t rough on a plan to take away the television rental concession from the volunteer group. That is money that the PPHA has traditionally used to pay for needed equipment that will now go into the coffers of the large corporate health group. One should remember that any move to place paid parking in the hospital lot will very likely result in the Implementation of a pay-and-disp By machine across the street at the recently-enlarged Medical Associates of Port Perry facility. As well, it it is accepted without a whimper by the public, it would send a message to the township and regional bean-counters that another method of taxation was acceptable to the populace in general. With the move to take over television rental, Lakeridge will take over a business that four years ago no one wanted and the auxiliary have worked their tails off to turn into a successful service, with no promise that any funds will stay in Port Perry, or in the ands of the volunteers who built the rental service into a viable service. Lakeridge has, as of late, been on a crusade to streamline its operation and make itself more palatable to the Sergon public. To be part of the community so- to-speak. The way to do that will not be through charging people to visit their relatives and taking rev- enue away from people who worked hard to earn it. Let's hope that is not what this is. Rpood Port PERRY STAR LETTERS Hopefully emergency staff know how important they are To the Editor: I have been directly involved with the emergency service work- ers in the region for almost 30 years and was pleased to read that the local fire service workers had been recognized at the Christian Centre in Port Perry. God forbid that they <hould ever be asked to respond to an event like Sept.1 1, however know that the police, fire and emergen- cy health services will be there. I hope the men and women we are so indebted to recognize how much they are appreciated even though it is seldom expressed. Thanks for being there. D. Brown Oshawa To the Editor: On behalf of Port Perry Minor Hockey | would like to thank Dr. Lionel McTague and the staff of Port Perry Dental Associates for their contribu- tion to minor hockey again this year. This was the second year that Dr. McTague and his staff vol- unteered their time and held a clinic at which the players of PPMH thanks Dr. McTague, staff PPMH were able to receive cus- tom-fitted mouthguards at a substantially reduced price. Because of their commit- ment, many hockey players now have superior protection against the possibility of con- cussion and oro-facia! trauma. Rick Penstone PPMH
