10 - PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, November 20, 2001 "Scugog's Community Newspaper of Choice" By Rik Davie Port Perry Star The kids of Good Shepherd Catholic School in Port Perry held a special kind of ceremony to mark Peace Week and Remembrance Day. They invited members of the three main emer- gency services -- fire, police and ambulance -- to their school on Nov. 8 to say thanks to the men and women who serve Good Shepherd students honour local emergency crews every day to keep their community a safer place to be a kid in. Members of the Durham Regional Police, the Scugog Fire Department and the Durham Emergency Medical Services were on hand for an emotional ser- vice as prayers were offered and a music and slide display showed grim images of the Sept. 11 ter- rorist attack in New York City, where over 300 fire- fighters, police and emer- gency workers lost their lives while trying to save civilians. Most were killed when the twin World Trade Towers collapsed after being hit by two airliners hijacked by terrorists . The children of the school performed for the men and women of the emergency services and gave them gifts of flowers.
