RIK DAVIE / PORT PERRY STAR Councillors set fee of $100 per vehicle Scugog agrees upon new fees for township cab companies By J. Peter Hvidsten Port Perry Star The four hours Archie Ewing spent at Scugog Council last Monday was time well spent by the local taxi owner. Mr. Ewing was present to observe and speak to a new bylaw governing the licensing and opera- tion of taxicabs and lim- ousine owners in the township. Under the new bylaw, there was a proposal to increase license fees in the township from a flat $100 to $300 per vehicle. Mr. Ewing said he did- n't understand why it $100 per car and $223.23 per vehicle in Oshawa. Ward 2 Councillor Marilyn Pearce ques- tioned the justification for $300 per car and Mark Stephenson, the town- ship's bylaw enforce- ment officer, replied that $300 was the fee paid in Ajax and Pickering. In the end, council sided with Mr. Ewing, setting the new fee at $100 per car. The new fees will come into effect in January 2002. Animal shelter report By ).
