According to reports, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were con- ducting a RIDE check for impaired drivers on Simcoe Rd. North near Seagrave around 9:15 p.m. on Friday (Nov. 23) when, according to reports from witnesses, a driver did the unexpected. According to informa- tion received by The Star, lage of Oakwood where it then attempted to head south on the Little Britain Rd. with police vehicles in pursuit at speeds that reached 165 km/h. According to Constable Ted Schendara of the Lindsay OPP the male dri- ver of the van forced sev- eral other vehicles off the road during the pursuit. OPP officers from the Lindsay detachment were able to extend and deploy a spike belt on the Little Britain Rd. between Monarch and Elm Tree Roads. The suspect vehi- cle passed over the spike belt and was then sand- wiched between two OPP cruisers. An male subject was removed from the vehicle by police and placed in custody. As a result of the pur- suit, 46-year-old Roderick Jones of Lindsay has been charged with impaired dri- ving, exceeding the legal blood-alcohol level of 0.08, dangerous driving and failing to stop for police. Five other traffic relat- ed offenses were also laid, and Mr. Jones was remand- ed into custody for a court appearance in Lindsay on Monday (Nov. 26). Ontario Provincial Police officers were forced to lay down a spike belt near Little Britain in their efforts to stop a van which ran a RIDE checkpoint near Seagrave. After leading officers on a high-speed chase, the suspect was finally corralled by OPP cruisers. A Lindsay man faces charges.
