On Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m. the Nestleton United Church annual Variety Night along with a craft and bake sale will be held at the church. The tal- ent exhibited in the Variety Show is always unbeliev- able. Don't miss it. The ever popular annual Pancake .Breakfast with Santa will be held on Sunday, Dec. 2 from 9 a.m. to | p.m. at the Rec. Centre. ~ Come and enjoy a deli- cious breakfast and meet Santa. This event is spon- sored by the Blackstock Nursery School. The Advent Carol Sing with local church choirs and Cartwright High School Band will be held at the United Church at 7 p.m. on Sunday evening. On Wednesday, Dec. 5 evening the Farm Parade of Lights will be held in Enniskillen, Hayden and Tyrone when the parade of decorated farm machinery will take place. The parade will set off from John Avery's farm at 6:30 p.m. Congratulations to Ralph and Peggy Larmer and Margaret Mountjoy who were honoured at the Scugog Awards evening last week for their many, many years of volunteer service in our community. Congratulations to Ann and Peter Vanderheul and BLACKSTQCK Joyce Kelly Cecil and Marie Gibson on the arrival of another grandson and great-grand- son with the arrival of Boyd and Chikako Vanderheul's second son in Bowmanville last week. The law of chance seems to have been broken when Blackstock has been repre- sented twice at the Air Canada Centre. Kirk Swain was chosen to take part in the Shoot-off at a recent hockey game and won $1,000. This means Blackstock has had two winners in this random choice of candidates as John Ford also won the same amount not long ago. Well done, lads. Many from this area enjoyed the excellent Santa Claus Parade in Port Perry on Saturday after- noon. Congratulations to the organizers. Mrs. Eileen McLaughlin enjoyed a trip to New York City last week when she took in many great sights in this fabulous city. There were 14 tables at the weekly card party with the following winners: Lorna Edgerton, Edna Manns, Doris Hill, Fern Redshaw, Carol Koch, Vivian Kidd and Marg Finney. Draws were won by Wilma Van Camp, Edna Manns, Elsie Pogue, Audrey Mahaffy, Art Gibson, and Harold Swain. On Friday evening Vicki Schryburt, who grew up in this area, was married in a lovely ceremony in Toronto. Former neigh- bours, Joan and Glen Grove were among the guests. Many from here enjoyed the Don Messer's Special Christmas Show at Newmarket on Wednesday afternoon travelling on Kerr's Bus Line. St. John's News By Andrea Weir On Dec. 2 at 7 p.m. there will be a joint service with Blackstock United, Nestleton United and St. John's at Blackstock United Church. Dec. 6 at noon we will be hosting Community Care's Senior Luncheon. Don't be surprised if you are asked for help in donating food or help or both. The Sunday School will be performing their Christmas Pageant during the service on Dec. 16. This will be followed by a pot luck lunch. Please don't forget donations for White Gift week Dec. 9 to 16. Senior choir practice is Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Junior choir will meet on Wednesday after school. Tickets are now on sale for Greenbank Hall's annu- al Christmas Dance. Mystery Sister Christmas Dec. 5 At the Scugog Island United Church service Sunday, Nov. 25 the congre- gation enjoyed the orchestra before the service and it was SCUGOG ISLAND by Clara Dowson table to greet you selling knitted goods, baby quilts and many other items too numerous to mention. The Island Women's Institute so nice to see our minister taking part. The welcoming service was very nice and thanks to all having a part with the "Symbols of Ministry." Rev. Lacey's sermon was "A Community of Friends." The children's story was also based on friends - if you want to have a friend you must also be one. It was a lovely service with the choir and orchestra which always adds so much. After the service coffee hour and lunch was downstairs and we met the Lacey family. Lunch was provided by the Grace U.C.W. and Head U.C.W. The official board meeting is Thursday, Nov. 29. This is an important meeting of the life of Scugog Island United Church. Sunday, Dec. 2 will be Hanging of the Greens and Communion Service at 10 a.m. Christmas pageant rehearsal following the service. The Head U.CW. Mystery Sister Christmas dinner will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 5 at 6 p.m. at the Island Hall. We find out who has had us guessing all year and get a new one for next year. Saturday, Dec. | will be the Community Nursing Home and Villa's annual Christmas bazaar. The Head U.C.W. girls will be at a met at the Island Hall Wednesday evening with 13 members. President Gloria Fralick welcomed all and opened in the usual manner. Marilyn and Gloria attended the 99th convention held in Markham and gave a report. Betty Reader reported on the Ontario District meeting held at the new police station. Both these meetings tell us dues will be increased for next year. Donations were given to Operation Scugog and to the high school. Remember your pies for the Christmas dinner we are catering to at the Oddfellows Hall on Dec. 11. Thanks to Honeydale Institute for the gift of a beautiful WI. plaque (hand done) to be placed in the Island Hall. The guest speakers from the health department gave us a detailed talk and pictures on our wells. Water is our main concem these days. The meeting closed and the group in charge served pumpkin pie, ice cream or whipped cream with tea and coffee. The December meeting will be our Christmas exchange of gifts with Gloria Fralick's group in charge.
