In the middle frame, the Bruins shifted their dangerous power play into high gear, scoring three of four goals with a man advantage to take a commanding 5- 2 lead after 40 minutes. The teams traded goals in the third with Brent Stokes getting the MoJack tally on a set-up from Ryan McQuade. PJ. Mabley did the main damage on the score-sheet for the visitors with a pair of goals. This was a tough, hard-fought hockey game with little quarter from both sides as the ref sent a steady stream of players to the box for a variety of infractions. And the Bruins proved they are going to be very tough to overtake for first place during the second half of the schedule. On Friday night in Campbellford, the MoJacks met the Empire League Rebels for the first of what will be two home-and- home games this season. The Rebs visit to Port Perry is slated for Dec. 23. The Mojacks quickly adapted to the unfamil- iar confines of the arena in that Eastern Ontario community. Dane Gray from Bennett and McQuade got the MoJacks going just 35 seconds into the contest. And by the end of the first period they had scored three more unanswered Boals to own what seemed like a comfortable 4-0 lead. But the Rebels are a second-place club in their own loop (behind the Napanee Raiders) and playing in front of their home-town fans, they came to life in the middle frame with three goals of their own. And suddenly, the MoJacks found themselves in a hockey game as both teams battled hard through the third period. First period marksmen for the Mojacks were Jones from Jeff Ashton and Matt Skerratt; McQuade from |. Froates and Adam Mercer; and Shaun Curran from Steele and Nathan Cotter. The Mojacks held their slender 4-3 lead for much of the third period before Bennett found the range with under five minutes in regulation 'with help from Gray for a much-needed insurance marker and the 5-3 lead which held up. This too was a tough, well-contested game with the teams sticking pretty much to the rules. The MoJacks were called for eight minors while the Rebels took nine. SLAPSHOTS: As if two tough hockey games on back-to-back nights, with a long bus trip thrown in, were not enough for one weekend, several of the MoJacks par- ticipated in the Santa Claus Parade Saturday afternoon in Port Perry. It was part of a strategy to help raise the com- munity profile of the hockey club in a positive way. The team is rapidly developing a pos- itive on-ice profile with the way it per- formed in the first half of the Junior C sea- son. After 19 games, the Mojacks have 25 points, good for second place, but just one ahead of Lakefield which has also played 19. They are eight points up on fourth place Georgina. The Little Britain Merchants saw their playoff hopes take a hit over the week- end as they were back-to-back losers to Lakefield 4-3 and Georgina 8-3. The Mojacks will travel to Little Britain this coming Saturday night to meet those same Merchants, so it's fair to say the green and white had better be ready as the red and white will be in a foul and ugly mood, not to mention hungry for a victory. On Sunday night, the Mojacks host Lakefield with the faceoff'set for 7 p.m. at the Scugog Arena. With second place on the line in this proverbial "four-pointer," you can bet this is going to be a dandy. Assisting on. the goals were Steve Stiles, and Ken Jeffrey with one each. Bill Bridge and Dave Dickson did the damage for Goreski's with Mark Goreski, Brock Reville, Ritchie LeFort and Brian Williamson adding an assist each. Compton Cable Cedar Creek Game five saw Compton and Cedar Creek skate to a one all draw. This was a very tight checking game as neither team allowed the other to get very many good chances. Both Ken Harman and Ray Gibson played well in net and made several key saves. Goalscorers were Scott Wilbur from Steve Dunn and Jarett Harman for Compton and Derek Fitzgerald from John Mackey and Chris O'Connor. Square Boy Pizza Taylor Fuels After a low scoring game it would only be fitting it was followed up by a wide open style game.
