| "Scugog's Community Newspaper of Choice" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, December 4, 2001 - 19 CAESAREA Albert Putsey A look at the calendar tells us a story in itself. Last Saturday night was the Blackstock Lions Christmas party. Then we spent a couple of hours celebrating with the fire- fighters at their annual Turkey Roll. Last year we also had a noon hour din- ner followed with enter- tainment in Toronto on that same first Saturday in December, this year it's a week later. Days like that make you realize you're not walking but waddling. In all Scugog public halls you'll see next to the pay phone a plastic plate with our local taxi compa- nies on it. Don't take that chance or you'll be handi- capped without trans- portation. Call them and leave your car. Don't drink Lake Scugog Historical Society to put on service at museum Make time to take in the Pioneer Christmas Service and drive. Caesarea Ratepayers Association We were sorry to see that three of our steady followers missed the meeting last Thursday night, but we had a couple of new people turn up to help our cause. At the meeting we discussed some new items: [. The West Quarter Line, which most of our working peo- ple take daily to Oshawa. We requested that this road be taken over by the region, and completed southward to tie into one of Oshawa's Regional roads. It must be improved with at least yel- low lines and better pave- ment. This will lighten the load on Simcoe St. 2. We also had a person from Williams Point asking for street lights for that sec- tion of Caesarea. To this we can only say, "council- lors, remember this is no longer a summer cottage area, but mostly perma- nent residents. 3. It was requested that around all our park areas new signs Courses offered in 2002 As the snow and ice of the winter season falls upon us, it is very com- non to slip on the ice and fall on a hard surface. When a person falls, especially children it is an adults' instinct to pick up and comfort the child. But if the child is serious- ly injured, that instinctive gesture could make the injury worse. Don't imme- diately pick up a child who has fallen. Nor should you let the child move until you are cer- tain there are no serious injuries. If you suspect a serious injury, send for medical help right away. St. John Ambulance to offer medical training courses St. John Ambulance teaches First Aid and CPR courses across Durham Region. The stop for Pier Street was mentioned under old business and I apologized for not getting pictures of those five school buses which pick up children at this corner each morning and discharge them each afternoon. Also under old busi- ness was a day for kids for January or February depending on snow and weather conditions. This is one of these rush - bang - and it's over events, Wright and his wife, Sharon joined us at the party on Saturday. We enjoyed the meal put on by the CHS. band par- ents and students, and the entertainment provided by a barbershop quartet from the Horseless Carriagemen from Oshawa. Sharing in our festivities were District Officers: Governor Paul and Linda Lummiss, vice district gov- ernor Brian Moore and partner Colleen Mewha and region chair Paul and Jane Taylor. Joke of the Week The wife invited some people to dinner. At the table she turned to their six-year-old daughter and said, "would you like to say the blessing?" "I wouldn't know what to say," the girl replied. "Just say what you hear mommy say," the wife answered. The little girl bowed her head and said, "Lord, why on earth did I invite all these people for dinner?" Directory of Coming Events ® after a bout in the hospi- because of the weather. When this occurs, sugar builds up in the blood. In some Type 2 diabetes patients, the pancreas doesn't pro- duce enough insulin although the pancreas is still producing some insulin. Usually there is plenty of insulin being made, however, the body's cells can't use the insulin properly. This is a condition called insulin resistance. Insulin resistance is also associated with other conditions such as hypertension, low levels of HDL Cholesterol and being overweight. Complications of Type 2 diabetes include: impairment or loss of vision, kidney or nerve damage, heart disease and circulatory problems. Ninety- two per cent of Type 2 diabetes patients are insulin resistant.
