After Grade 13 I went to Teachers' College in Toronto and took Primary Specialists in Teaching after that. I taught school in Toronto, Burlington and Edmonton and | also worked for the Toronto Dominion Bank when VISA began and I was involved with the pilot project for The Green Machine for the TD Bank. I am the volunteer president of the Community Memorial Hospital Foundation and I was the past chair of the Port Perry Hospital and was also on the Ontario Crafts Council. Family: I have a husband, Douglas Farndale. Current positions with the Community Hospital Foundation: I have been a volunteer with the hospi- tal in one way or another since 1976 and now | am the president of the Foundation, a position I've held for two-and-a-half years. It is a nominated position and before that I was the vice-president of the Foundation. . Please describe what the Foundation does for the hospital, patients and the community? We pur- chase equipment for the hospital and we're in charge of fundraising for the hospital for any renovations or expan- sions at Lakeridge Health Port Perry. What sort of help has the Foundation provided for the hospital over the past years? The Foundation raised money for the expansion of the Stephen B. Roman wing plus other renovations that took place at that time. We continue to purchase equip- ment in order to provide the best care possible for our patients. How many people are involved within the Hospital Foundation? Approximately 12 volunteer board members and we have an executive director and an executive assistant. What plans does the Foundation have for 2002? We plan to continue to raise funds for the hospital. Also we are involved with the R. Samuel McLaughlin Cancer Centre, which we are also raising funds for. I am one of the Honourary Heroes of the Cancer Centre Campaign. Are you involved with any other community organizations? I still help with some of the shows at the Kent Farndale Gallery at the Scugog Memorial Public Library and I'm on the Awards Committee of the Community Foundation of Durham. I also do many things in Toronto for the Ontario Crafts Council and the Gardner.Museum. How did you get the art gallery named after you? It was important to me that we had a place in our commu- nity to exhibit art and fine crafts. When the new library was being built that NICK BRONSON / PORT PERRY STAR A graduate of Port Perry High School, Kent Farndale went on to become a teacher and later work at one of Canada's largest banks before making her way back home to Scugog. was the most appropriate place for it and the gallery opened in 1982. | was the director for the first 10 years and at the end of that period they honoured me by naming it The Kent Farndale Gallery as well as initiating the Kent Farndale Bursary for the Arts.
