be. 26 - PORT PERRY "WEEKEND STAR" FRIDAY, JANUARY 28, 2000 KCI Petites put up a great effort, but drop three at Etobicoke tournament Port Perry K.C.I. Petite C travelled to Etobicoke to play Ayr in the first of three games. They met a very strong team and lost 12 - | scoring for Port Perry was Jennifer Jonca assist- ed by Michele Love and Lacey Churchill. Lisa Durawala stood on her head making save after save keeping the score a lot better than it could of been. Game two saw K.C.1. play Barrie and this was a much closer score with Port Perry losing 5 - 2. Scoring for Port was Victoria Sturgess with assists going to Britney Decosta and Chad Decosta. Also scoring was Michele Love assisting again was Britney and Victoria Potier. Port Perry had lots of shots and chances for more goals with Amy Teed, Ashleigh Sandiford and Samantha McDonald all being thwarted by the Barrie goalie. Game three on Sunday saw K.C.l1. play the Barrie team again for the semi-final. Port Perry put up a valiant struggle only to lose 8 - 3. The score is not indicative of the play as the Port team carried a lot of the play only to be stymied by the Barrie goalie. Lisa Durawala who played all three games in goal was incredible making save after save in all three games. Scoring for K.C.l. in game three was Victoria Sturgess with assists going to Elizabeth Reinhardt and Chad Decosta. Jennifer Joncas added two goals assisted by Chad, Ashleigh Sandiford, Lacey Churchill and Samantha McDonald. The defense played stellar and the forwards all had strong games. This tournament was a real character builder for the team which is gearing up for the February "Jordon" tournament. Aldon Bantams rebound to defeat Essa in the championship final Port Perry's Aldon team trav- elled to Thornton on Sunday, Jan. 16 for a Bantam hockey tournament. Their first game was against Oshawa. Despite outplaying Oshawa for the first two periods, Aldon ended up down by two goals. They fought back to even the score in the third period on Greg Jeffery's solo effort, and a goal by Ryan Petch, beautifully set up by Wes Langmaid. Mark Morrison scores five to lead Luchka past Sharview Farms 11-3 Sharcon Excavating 3 Green's Electric 10 Green's jumped to an early lead with goals by Craig Silnieks (two), Sean Vice, and Sam Guenther. Sharcon's Krista Crosier scored to put them on the board. In the second Cory Gerrits put one away for Green's. Joe Fusco Green's goalie made amazing saves. Kale Wardlaw between the pipes for Sharcon, gave a great effort but Green's were strong offensively today. In the third Green's point scorers were Sam, Craig, Cory, Tommy Halligan and Keith Steele. Assists went to Phillip Rudkin, Greg Jorgensen, Kyle Carruthers, Maxwell Jacobs, Oshawa got the winning goal late in the third period to send Aldon to the B Division. In their second game against Thornton, Aldon took the lead early and kept it for a 6-2 win. Garrett Brown opened the scor- ing on a nice pass from B.]. Schaump. Then Garrett returned the favour and set up B.J., who was also assisted by Mark Schinkel. The winning goal was potted by Mark Vernest with helpers going to Ryan Petch and Kyle Taylor. B.J. Schaump got the insurance goal aided by Greg Jeffery. Wes Langmaid added to the lead assisted by Garrett Brown and John Dutka. The final goal was by Greg Jeffery with B.). Schaump notch- ing his fourth point of the game with the assist. Aldon met up with Essa in the championship game and fell behind by two goals in the first period, but before the end of the period Wes Langmaid got a breakaway and found the net to put Aldon on the board. Then in the second perjod Kyle Taylorset up B.]. Schaump to even the score. Ryan Petch potted the winning goal assist- ed by B.J. Schaump and Mark Vernest. Greg Jeffery notched one more helped by Garrett Brown and B.J. Schaump to seal the victory for the champi- onship. Tim Martyn and Chris Wygerde played strong defen- sive games all day and goalies Kyle Geer and Tyler Leach were both terrific in net. Top honours for the day went to Wes Langmaid, who came away with the M.V.P. award for his tireless effort. Oshawa scored in a shootout to win 2-1 Van Camp Novices drop a close one in OT to Oshawa On jan. 15 Van Camp Contracting from the Novice House League trav- elled to Manvers to play in a tourna- ment. Van Camp faced off against the host team, Manvers, in game one. Cody Parker scored early from Steve Ashbridge to give VC the lead. Evan Taylor fired the second goal on a great pass from Morgan Barr. Evan also scored the third goal with an assist to Brian McLean. Tim Edwards was outstanding in goal. Erik Paige, Michael Dunn and Dean Sobczak were "rock solid" on defence. Van Camp went on to win 3-1. Van Camp met a formidable foe, Sutton, in game two. The kids worked hard but Sutton prevailed to win. Caleb O'Donnell was busy in goal and made several good saves. Eric Jeffrey, Zach Pelow and Brittny O'Connor did some aggressive forechecking. On we go to the B final. This was a close final against a team from Oshawa. The Van Camp players had lots of vocal support from their fans in the stands. VC carried a 1-0 lead late into the third period but Oshawa scored to tie the game. With the game deadlocked at 1- | an overtime period took place. The play went end-to-end with VC having great chances to score. The game finally ended in a shootout with Oshawa man- aging to score. Vanessa Wilde was superb in goal, stopping several shots. Our goal was scored by Zach Pelow with assists to Ben Sobczak and Cody Parker. Congratulations to all the players for a great effort and an entertaining day of hockey. Blackstock Minor Hockey action Steven Humphrey, Cory and Tony MacDonald. Sharcon kept trying and scored two more, one by Krista and one by Clinton Midgley. Assists went to Cody James, Ben Gregory, Christopher McNally and Justyn Kennedy. Spanky's Haulage 2 Mackies Auto Systems 2 Spanky's was first on the board when Sean .Coombes scored assisted by Angelo Pugliese and Wolf Roberts. Both teams showed great defensive moves to help goalies Trevor Douma for Spanky's and Daniel Thomton for Mackies. In the third Mackies took the lead with two goals with one each by Daniel Holman and Jim Dermarkar. Assists went to Joshua Watson and Sean. Spanky's Jack O'Halloran scored unassisted to tie it up with only a minute left. Duff's Electric 7 Lakeside Marine 4 Duff's took an early lead with a goal by George McCormack and by Matt Hewson. Assists went to Cameron Milton. Lakeside put one on the board with a goal by Jory McLean assist- ed by Michael Murray. In the second Lakeside put two away, one each by Kevin Fidler and Jory. Assisted by Robert Jones and Spencer Ayres. Duff's came on strong with goals by Georg and Matt (two). Assists went to Auberley Hope, Travis Johnstone and Cameron. The third saw George score one more and Patrick Marchi put one away for Duff's. Assisted by Auberley and Billy Geer. Lakeside kept trying and Josh Rathwell found the back of the net, assisted by Kevin. Auto Specialist 7 Springrove Agri 4 Springrove took the lead with -goals by Curtis Gibbons and Luke Puccini. Assisted by Andrew Down, Adam Down and Dylan Nottingham. Auto Spec. put a point on the board with a goal by Tanner Mitchell assisted by Brendan Pearce. Auto Spec. dominated the second with goals by Jordan Mitchell, Daniel Crosier (two), and Ashley Ayres. Assists went to John Phillip Zidner, Tyler James and Brendan. Auto Spec. put two more away in the third. One shot from the point by John Phillip and one on rebound by David Van Camp. Assists went to Jordan Mitchell, Mike Kennedy and Tyler James. Springrove kept trying, Cody Barron hit the net and Adam Down scored with 12 seconds left. Assists went to Gordon Rowe and Bodan Grodesky. Sharview Farms 3 Luchka Floats 11 Luchka dominated the board with goals by Mark Morrison (five), Craig Asselstine (three), Brad Pigden (one), and Jason Morrison (two). Assists went to Craig, Brad, Jason, Mark, Trisha Martin and Dusty Pickard.
