PORT PERRY "WEEKEND STAR" FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 25, 2000 - 15 CRIME STOPPERS Police seeking info on recent theft in Beaverton Crime Stoppers and Durham Regional Police need your assistance in solving a theft that occurred in Beaverton between Feb. 4 and 5 of this year. On Friday evening two visitors from the United States checked into a motel in the Beaverton area. The two had travelled from the State of Michigan to do some fishing in-the area. They brought along their skidoos in a trailer. Sometime during the overnight hours culprits attended the motel parking lot removing the trailer from the victims vehi- cle. The enclosed red aluminum trailer bearing Michigan licence plate number P40105 housed two snow machines as well as a quantity of expensive fishing equipment and winter clothing. The snow machines, one a two tone green and black, the other blue are described as both 1995 Polaris skidoos. The loss is estimated at approximately $25,000. Anyone possessing any informa- tion regarding this crime is asked to make the call to Durham Regional Crime Stoppers. Crime Stoppers will pay a cash reward for any information that will lead to an arrest in this incident. Negotiations are set to begin on extending the lease of the current North Durham 26 Division police station here in Port Perry. While plans are in the works to con- struct a new police station for 26 Division near the intersection of Reach Rd. and Hwy. 12, police officials are looking at extending the lease of the current sta- tion, located on Old Simcoe Rd., just north of Reach Rd., until the end of 2000. Police set to negotiate lease on last year at old Port Perry station The current lease agreement between Durham Region and landowner Mike Cochrane is scheduled to expire in June. A motion was made at last week's Police Services Board meeting in Oshawa to have the region begin negoti- ations with Mr. Cochrane.
