22 - PORT PERRY "WEEKEND STAR" FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 25, 2000 Blackstock Minor Hockey action Asselstine, Morrisons lead Luchka's assault on Sharview Farms Spanky's Haulage 5 Auto Specialist | Spanky's jumped to an early lead with a goal by Vaughan Heard. Next to score was Jack O'Halloran and Angelo Pugliese (two). Jordan Mitchell found the net for Auto Spec., assisted by Tyler James and Tanner Mitchell. Both goalies did fantastic work, Brendan Pearce for Auto Spec. and Zachary Parker for Spanky's. Late in the third Spanky's Sean Coombes scored for extra insurance. Assists for Spanky's went to Wolfe Roberts, Paddy Gregory and Anthony Pugliese. Sharview Farms 2 Luchka Floats 10 This high energy game saw Luchka dominate the scoring with goals by Mark Morrison (three), Jason Morrison (three), Brad Pigden (one) and Craig Asselstine (three). Their goalie Christopher Avery, made amaz- ing saves. Sharview playing short hand- ed showed determination with goals by Troy Wagg and Corey Gerrits. Assists went to Cory Jones and Troy Wagg. Sharcon Excavating 8 Green's Electric 6 This was a see-saw battle that saw both teams struggle for con- trol. Green's Sean Vice, Craig Silnieks and Sam Guenther each scored in the first. Assists went to Joe Fusco and Gregory Jorgensen. Sharcon"s Corey Brooks scored two, Clinton Midgley for one and Krista Crosier, one. Assists went to Krista and Corey Brooks. In the second we saw Sharcon"s Clinton score one more and Corey Brooks score three more. Assists went to Corey and Clinton. Green's Sean Vice scored one more with Sam Guenther assisting. The third period saw Green's keep fighting with two goals by Sam Guenther. Assists went to Joe and Craig. Tony MacDonald, Green's goalie, made many great saves. Sharcon"s goalie, Justyn Kennedy, did a great job and was key to give his team the win. Duff's Electric 5 Lakeside Marine | Duff's goalie Isaac Foote made awesome saves under pressure. Matt Hewson put Duff's on the board assisted by Travis Johnstone. Travis was next to score assisted by Matt. Corey Vandewiel widened the gap for Duffs assisted by George McCormack. In the second Michael Savage put one away for Duffs assisted by Jacob Gettins and Travis. Corey scored one more. Lakeside kept up a good struggle and Jorey McLean found the back of the net, assisted by Steven Zajko. Springrove Agri. 2 Mackies Auto Systems 4 Springrove's goalie Curtis Gibbons did a great job making many saves. Mackies goalie Travis Lee was key to give his team the points. Springrove's Adam Down scored twice. Mackies kept the pressure on, goals were scored by Daniel Holman, Robert Ashdown and Anthony Tamburro put two away. Assists went to Jim Dermarkar, Robert, Kyler Holmes and Joshua Watson. They defeated Jordan for the championship crown Shepstone Petites storm through Niagara ringette tournament Old man winter wasn't the only storm to whirl through the Niagara region this spast weekend. The Port Perry Shepstone Petites competed in an "A" calibre tournament even though the girls are designated "B" level. Waterloo, Shepstone"s first opponent might have beat the snow but the Port Perry storm was just begin- ning. Lesley Donovan played vastly improved ringette and had a six assist, one goal performance. Lauren Guthrie scored five times while Kim Wilson popped two. Carley Churchill set up three goals including one by Jamie Steranka. Caitlin Dunn played tough on defence in a 11-2 rout of Waterloo. The next victim was a much stronger team from Etobicoke but the end result was similar. Caitlyn Hellingman scored four times while Ashley Morton and Ceri Boomsma also found the net as Port - re w for 2000 Season > ugog Soccer Club @ Be pics scr any bg at Scugog Chamber of Commerce Friday, Feb. 25 6:30-9pm Perry went on to win 8-4. The host Jordan team proved to be the strongest Shepstone had seen in this action packed weekend. Great goal- tending from Lyndsay Whyte and Jordan's Jessica Easton resulted in a 3-3 draw and a rematch the next day to determine the grand champions. Fuelled by Mr. Shepstone's generous pizza party the night before, the girls came out ablaze. Lauren scored her first of three from a pass by Julie Tapper as Port Perry jumped out to a 4-1 lead. Jordon fought back to tie 4-4 but Caitlyn Hellingman gave Shepstone's a 5-4 lead. Lyndsay made a game scoring stop in net to allow Port to score one more before Jordan fought back with their goalie out but were denied the equalizer by a tough defence. A solid effort by all gave the visiting Port Perry team a well deserved 6-5 win. Congrats girls.
