Police were brought in when Ontario Fire Marshal representative Jim McBride declared the March 19 fire at Pizza Delight arson. Detective Rick Keeler is looking for anyone who may have any information on Sunday's fire. "Right now we're can- vassing the neighbours and looking for any possi- ble witnesses. We want to talk to anyone who may have been in the area and saw something," said Det. Keeler. "We've talked to some- one who said they saw a transient in the area at that time, but right now we have no suspects." Firefighters were called to the scene of the fire shortly after 11 a.m. on March 19. A co-owner of the restaurant was in the building at the time the fire started, and told police she heard a loud bang before seeing smoke and flames coming from the rear of the building. The woman alerted two other employees of the fire and they left the build- ing. The trio checked the two upper apartments, but no one was home at the time. Det. Keeler was informed that the fire had been started at the rear of the building, beneath an outside staircase. No accelerant was found at the scene, said Det Keeler. Shortly after wrapping up his investigation of the fire scene on Monday, Mr. McBride told The Star that the fire was "being treated as an arson". Anyone with any infor- mation is asked to contact Det. Keeler at 579-1520, extension 2674. 1 Vi ezv The 1 | G0 sounds of ! 2 the Tropics | Let Marigold Travel plan your next 12 Water Street, Port Perry | am sorry you had to experience the Internet on phone lines.
