Jeff Hodgkinson and his staff at the store have joined Operation Scugog in putting together a gift. of cash and cer- tificates that will go a long way towards helping a mother of two and a single woman who lost almost all of their belongings when flames engulfed the Pizza Delight store on Water St. March 19. A total of $1,000 in gift certificates has been donated through the Canadian Tire Foundation for Families. The foundation is best known for assist- ing those: who suffered through the Quebec and Eastern Ontario ice storms a couple of years ago. Mr. Hodgkinson said customers' donations of cash and 'Canadian Tire money left in the box at the cashiers stations of the store go to help those in need in this community as well. "We set up the boxes and began get- ting 'donations as soon as we heard (about the fire)," Mr. Hogkinson said. Laura Colwell and her two young sons lost their apartment in the blaze. They have relocated, and are starting to put their lives back together. "We were overwhelmed by the help and we can't thank people enough for all this," she said in a phone interview with The Star. Mrs. Carnegie said Operation Scugog will see that any donations given go to families in need in this area. "If people want to give specifically to these fire victims then they can note that on 'their donations, and anything over and above what is needed for them will surely finds its way to families in the area," she said.
