PORT PERRY "WEEKEND STAR" FRIDAY, APRIL 14, 2000-3 New officer for IE IL 1.113 Now in full bloom at Brock's i | hospitals in i north Durham Roy Manuel has been hired as the new Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the Port Perry and Uxbridge sites of the Lakeridge Health Corporation. The hiring of Mr Manuel, who will begin work on July 3, was announced on Monday (April 10). "We are delighted to welcome Roy to Lakeridge. He brings a wealth of expe- rience working in a rural hospital environment simi- lar to that of our northern sites," Lakeridge Health CEO Brian Lemon said in a press release earlier this week. : "He also has experience in health care reorganiza- tion so (he) will be an asset to our organization as we continue to integrate our health services with those of our community part- ners." Mr. Manuel is currently working as the CEO of the Peninsulas Health Care Corporation in Clarenville, Newfoundland. He began his career as a registered nurse and later became the manager of patient care as the Health Sciences Centre in St. John's, Newfoundland. From 1995- 1997, Mr. Manuel was the Assistant Deputy Minister of Institutions for the Government of Newfoundland Health Department. : Mr. Lemon also expressed his thanks to Chris Kooy, who had been acting as the COO for the two North Durham sites since January, when Guy Kirvan retired. - Man is charged after filing fake auto theft report A Beaverton man has been charged with pub- lic mischief for allegedly reporting his truck stolen after being in an acci- dent. Police say that a 2000 GMC Sierra pickup was reported stolen at 10 a.m. on April 9. The vehicle was later discovered in a ditch on the Fourth Line in Scugog. A check of the truck revealed that it had been stolen: from a Beaverton residence; but the officer became suspicious after he noticed that there was no damage to the vehi- cle, and that it was locked and the ignition was intact. A Scenes Of Crime Officer (SOCO) was sent to an impound yard to take fingerprints from the vehicle. The registered owner of the vehicle was called to Port Perry's 26 Division shortly after noon on April 10, where he admitted that he had been involved in an acci- dent and then reported the truck missing.
