Durham District School Board trustees were presented with annual figures on vio- lence in schools Monday night. The report shows the level and type of violent incidents across the board is at its highest point since 1995/96. LOCATED AT PORT PERRY AUTO GLASS bi Hwy. 7A, Port Penry The figures are part of a study mandated -by the provincial Ministry of Education to track violent and criminal acts in Ontario's schools. Figures have been kept by the Durham board since 1993 in most areas. According to the report, the school yard is still the most frequent site of violence, with 75 incidents recorded, up from 61 in 97/98. School hallways rank second with 60 inci- dents, up substantially over last year's 36. Figures for violent incidents in classrooms of all types have risen alarmingly to 57 from only 38 the previous year. The fourth highest location for such inci- dents was listed in the report as "other", which covers areas like the walk to school and areas immediately adjacent to school grounds. The report noted acts of violence in 52 different locations.
