If you would like more Fair community project to be launched The 150th Sunderland Fair Community Project begins this Saturday at the site of the annual heavy Horse Show com- mittee of the Sunderland Agricultural Society. The dance begins at 9 p.m. with the great music of Gary Peters, and is held at the Sunderland Legion. The Community Project is about a com- memorative, one-of-a- kind rug made by certi- fied rug hooking teacher Grace Tanfara of Sunderland. Mrs. Tanfara credits her career to the Sunderland Fair. The rug, which took from September to December at about five hours every day, is her gift to the fair. "In 1993 1 first came to the Fair with the Beaver River Woolcrafters demonstrating rug hook- ing. Some people asked me if there was anyone that could teach them what we were doing and | said that | could," she said. .In 1995 Mrs. Tanfara became a certified teacher in the Ontario Hooking Craft Guild, which has more than 1,000 members across the province with about 80 teachers. Rug hooking is not a fast hobby but "it is very relaxing, you can forget everything while you work at it," she says adding that that rug. hooking was one of the first craft items shown at early Fairs. The 150th Sunderland Fair rug tells a story of the Fair and the community of Sunderland with a school, farm, home, the Beaver River, and many other aspects in the cre- ation. The Sunderland Agricultural Society decided that the rug should make its home in Sunderland and be on display in the community to remember its history and thus have decided to make it into a community project to raise money for the 150th Fair. At the dance, for $20 a family or couple or indi- vidual can have their name displayed beside the rug wherever it is dis- played and also one tick- et for the 150th Fair will be given out. For tickets to the dance please call Lome Brethour at 705-357-3385 or Fair President Dorothy Shier at 705-437-1358. { The County of Victoria Household Hazardous Waste Collection Days Fenelon Falls Works Yard 15 Industrial Park Dr. Fenelon Falls Saturday, May 6, 2000 8:00am to 3:00pm --- 2 locations 2084 Little Britain Road, Lindsay Roads Depot (County Road 4) 3 km south of Lindsay Saturday, June 24, 2000 8:00am to 1:00pm - 1 location Coboconk Works Depot 2863 County Road 48 (just west of Hwy. 35) County residents may take their Household Hazardous Waste to any of these locations.
