Woman is honoured for community theatre work By Chris Hall Port Perry Star For her dedication and commitment to the per- forming arts, Port Perry's Vivian Lee has been made a life-member of Ontario's theatre commu- nity. A performer since the age of 12, Ms Lee was pre- sented with the honour last month during the board position. "It's really a form of recognition for the time and effort I've spent work- ing for this board," Ms Lee said. "It means I'm a mem- ber for life; there's no more annual fees for as long as | live, which is really neat." She was first nominat- ed to the board - which atre, some okay theatre and some pretty bad the- atre. | saw a little of every- thing when | was making my way around," she said. A director on the ACT- CO board for more than 10 years now, Ms Lee has played an instrumental role in the province's the- atre community since she was nominated for the Drapery Choral Society in four dif- ferent regions across the province - almost 16 years ago, while performing with groups in Port Perry, Oshawa and Scarborough. After her first year as a board member, Ms Lee became the ACT-CO East Region representative for another year before tak- ing on the role of assistant chairman of the group's annual festival. During that time she helped restructure the festival, and took over as festival chair the following year. "I saw literally hun- dreds of shows, and there was some really good the- local community theatre. "It's great. | still love to be involved in it. The very first time | was on stage | really enjoyed it because Iwas being someone other than who 1 really was," said Ms Lee. "When you take on a role seriously enough, you can get inside the head and heart of a different type of person, or inside someone who has experi- enced different things in their life. "That's what | really love about it; it helps you understand people bet- ter... it lets you live the life of someone else for awhile." 188 MARY ST.
