Q The continuing SIU investigation into last December's shooting of a man by police here. Durham Const. Paul Williams has been the sub- ject of the investigation, launched after Warren Mclvor was shot. The man had led police on a 60-km chase that began on Scugog Island, and ended near Beaverton. "Why haven't we dealt with and why aren't we pushing the SIU to get one of our officers in the north back on the road?" she asked. The SIU has come under fire from police association members and a lawyer for the officer for long delays in the report, even after the man accused in the inci- dent pleaded guilty to charges laid after the chase, and apologized for his actions before a court. "Why aren't we as a board going after the SIU and saying get this dealt with and get this dealt with immediately?" asked Mayor O'Connor. "Why are we putting offi- cers through this anguish," Mayor O'Connor said. "I get really angry when | know there are officers out there going through hell and there's absolutely no need forit." a The recent reassign- ment of two Durham "cold case" investigators over allegations of misconduct. Mayor O'Connor was angered at the lack of infor- mation board members received from top brass with regard to the incident. "I had to read about it in the paper," she said.
