The award, which will be presented in Palmer Park on July | during the town's Canada Day celebrations, is The Star's way of honouring some of Scugog's most dedicated residents. Over the past three years, the award has been presented to Frank Fielding, Wanninkhof, and we're looking for the public to help us select a deserving win- ner for 2000. Nominations can be dropped off at The Star Office -- 188 Mary St. -- until noon on June 12. Entry forms are avail- able at the office. The Citizen of the Year Award is hand- ed out to residents of Scugog Township as a means of providing recognition to Heather Haliburton-Smith, and Ann individuals who have performed note- worthy deeds within our community. It's these outstanding achievements, extraordinary displays of compassion, dedicated volunteers, and acts of courage by individuals that we feel deserve recognition. Those honoured will exemplify values such as courage, resourcefulness, and selflessness. The nominees can include those who have been involved in worthwhile com- munity service endeavours, have over- come debilitating physical or physiologi- cal handicaps to match or exceed their fellows, or have performed acts of hero- ism, perhaps endangering their own lives. | Nominees must have lived in the Scugog Township during the past year, or the act which they are being nominated for must have taken place within the township. Impaired charges laid after motorist flagged down near Blackstock An Oshawa man will appear in court next month to face impaired driving charges after an incident on the highway near Blackstock. Durham Police report that sometime around noon on May 13 a 53-year- old Oshawa man was trav- elling along Hwy. 7A, and failed to stop for the lights at the intersection with Regional Rd. 57. He went through the intersection and put his pickup in a ditch, say police.
