The event, which ran from July 14-16 at the lakefront ball diamonds on Water St., helped raise funds which will be used for Ontario Amateur Softball Association post- secondary scholarships in Jack Cook's name. They were held in Fenelon Falls on July 16 . Victoria County Pony Club hosts Central Canadian Dressage Championships Here are the placings at the second Central Ontario Region of Pony Club dres- sage qualifier for the Central Canadian Dressage Championships, held Sunday, July 16 at Killusty Farm north of Fenelon Falls, hosted by the Victoria Pony Club. Selection for the Central Ontario Dressage team, which will compete against teams from the Western Ontario and St. Lawrence-Ottawa Valley Regions, will be based on scores at this meet and other qualifiers hosted by the Baltimore Hills Pony Club on June 25 and by the Toronto and North York Pony Club, Aug. 13. This year, the Central Canadian Championships are being hosted by the Central Ontario Region, at Ontario's Pony Club Tournament of Champions, to be held at the York Equestrain Centre near Newmarket, Aug. 26 and 27. At the Beginner | level, first place went to Sarah McBride of the host Victoria Pony Club, riding Maple. There was a four-way tie for second place among Sarah Conboy of the Oshawa Pony Club, riding Ardmore"s Tip Top, Kaley Fountain of Victoria on Thunder, Lauren Pinder, also of Victoria, on Mr. Tuff Stuff, and Morgan Vanclief of the Oshawa Pony Club riding Lorissa. At the Beginner 2 level, Jessica McVittie of the Temjskaming Pony Club took first on Marrylegs, with Tiffany Kift of the Oshawa Pony Club second aboard Otto and Lauren Pinder third (in Dressage competitions, each horse/rider combina- tion may enter two consecutive classes). Beginner 1-2 Champion was Lauren Pinder, with Morgan Vanclief in Reserve. The Beginner 3 winner was Tiffany Kift, with Cassey Barton of Victoria second on Jim Dandy and Kylie Pinder, also of Victoria, third aboard Let's Rhumba. Beginner 2-3 Champion was Tiffany Kift, with Jessica McVittie in Reserve. In the Basic | class, Victoria Pony Club entries took the first three placings, with Julie Pett first aboard Blizzard, Amelia Jones second on Resolution, and Kait Pinder third on Rosser. Beginner- Basic I Champion was Kylie Pinder, with Casey Barton Reserve. At the Basic 2 level, Sarah Rae of Victoria took first place on Gentle Ben. In second was Ashley Minion of the Kawarthe Pony Club riding Taylor Made, and third place went to Shandra Robbescheuten of the Durham Pony Club aboard True Epik. The Basic 1-2 Champion was Amelia Jones, with Christine Culbert of the Toronto and North York Pony Club in Reserve riding Mr. TD.T. Sarah Rae reported as Basic 3 winner, with Shandra Robbescheuten second and Christy Barnes of the Pine Ridge Pony Club third riding Phineas. Basic 2-4 Champion was Sarah Rae, with Shandra Robbescheuten the Reserve. Jenny Rae of Victoria took the honours at the Basic 4 level on Avalon. Beth Murray was the only entry at the Turn to Page 25 Chevy/Mercury Bass Tour Lindsay Open Bob and Wayne lzumi of the Real Fishing Show held onto their lead to cap- ture the Chevy/Mercury Bass Tour Lindsay Open on Scugog and Sturgeon Lakes. The brothers, who said they've been fishing in the Lindsay area for over 20 years, put their experience to work for them this week- end. Their first day weight of 21.15 pounds (five bass) on Saturday was followed up with an impressive 18.80 pounds for a total two day weight of 39.95 pounds (10 fish). For their win, the 1zumis shared an $8,000 cheque. The top local angler was Steve Sherman of Peterborough who, along with partner Gary O'Neill of Kitchener, placed seventh with 27.40 pounds. The largest single bass weighed in this weekend was 5.90 pounds which was caught by Doug Brownridge of Brampton. The Lindsay Open had a total purse of $30,000. Eighty, two-person teams fished for a maximum of five bass per day. All of the fish caught during the tournament were returned to Scugog and Sturgeon Lakes via the Turn to Page 25 ------
