McClelland Weekend Star Speed and passing will be more important than ever for the Port Perry MoJacks as they start another season of Junior C hockey Sept. 23 at the Scugog Arena. A significant rule change -- the elimination of the centre line for off- side passes -- is designed to add more speed and scoring for all levels of Ontario Junior hockey this season. MoJack's general manager Murray Parliament likes the rule change, as it should make games more exciting for the fans. And, he says it could be a factor in the kind of team the MoJacks put on the ice. "Obviously, we are still going to select the best 20 hockey players we can find," he told The Port Perry Star at a training camp workout earlier this week. But, he added that if it comes down to two players with equal ability, the one with the "better wheels" could very well be selected and signed to a playing card. In any event he believes the major- ity of Jr. C fans will enjoy seeing more scoring chances and a more wide open brand of hockey at the Scugog Arena this coming season. About 50 players hit the ice Monday night (Aug 28) for the opening of training camp (the earliest ever camp for the Mojacks tn their 28-year history), all of them hoping to wear the Mojack green and white. And the general manager said there appears to be a lot of guys very anxious to crack the line-up and have their names on a card when the regu- lar season opens on Sept. 23. Mr. Parliament, head coach Tom Thornbury and: assistant Scott Pinkerton will have six exhibition 'games to further assess the talent and help them make their selections. The MoJack's pre-season schedule is as follows: Sept. 8 in Georgina; Sept. 10, Georgina at Port Perry; Sept. 13 and 15 in Lakefield; Sept. 16 in Turn to Page 19 Cartwright Minor Ball wraps up another exciting season Final standings were as follows: League Champions - T- Ball - All Flags Service; Tyke - Campbell Electric; Mite - Analda Garden Centre; Squirt - Greenbank Bakery; Intermediate - Tanning Zone; Seniors - Thomas Cook Travel. Tyke Final Workman Hawkeyes | | Campbell Electric | Two hard fought games but well earned wins in the morning took its toll on a pumped up but tired Campbell Electric squad in the Tyke final. Despite good effort by the entire team, we were unable to take over the momentum from a well tuned opposi- tion. Coaches Ivan and Owen really appreciate their team's enthusiasm and respect shown us this sea- son and wish them all the best in their future baseball careers. Squirts Sunshine Pool and Fitness 9 Greenbank Bakery 26 Very exciting final game of the tournament. The score was tied in the fourth inning at six a piece, but Greenbank came out at the top of the fifth scoring six. Turn to Page 27 ROUND PIZZAS
