A large community run was held on Sept. 17 in Port Perry, and through the work of close to 400 participants it raised almost $25,000 for cancer Board lifts restriction By Rik Davie Weekend Star Harry Potter is welcome back in Durham's public schools. Durham District School Board trustees passed a motion Monday night that lifts restrictions that had been placed on the popular series of childrens' books, by British author J.K. Rowling. Restrictions meant that the books could not be read aloud in class- es if even one parent of a child objected to it. News of that restriction raised a furor in Durham Region and beyond, as proponents of the Harry Potter series railed against what they saw as the banning of a valuable teaching resource. "It is & pity that this temporary move, brought on by a small group, was misinterpreted as a banning by the public, and has undeservedly caused this board a great deal of embarrassment," said Mrs. Drew. "Our apologies to author J.K. Rowling."
