It's a 1999 GMC rescue van, equipped with the equipment needed by the hall's crack rescue and extrication team. The price for the state-of-the-art unit came in at more than $90,000. But don't race to check your tax bills, because the unit didn't cost taxpayers. The firefighters raised the money themselves. District Chief Stan Wilson said he is proud of his men for the campaign that will result in better protection for the citizens they serve. i "We were running out of room for.equipment and "20 Members of Brock's firefighters held fundrai purchase of the vehicle. It's men in the old unit, and something had to be done," said Chief Wilson. "Our budget is small, and so with the help of a grant from the Foster Hewitt Foundation, we decided to take on the job." Firefighters raised money through car washes and many other activities, and the funds slowly accu- mulated. I sers Chief Wilson said one . grateful customer of the service was among those private citizens who came through for the firefighters. "I got a call from a woman whom we had extracted from a car acci- dent," said Chief Wilson. "She was getting some details of the accident from me, and thanked us for our help at the time. 1. te SCUGOG FINANCIAL _] -------- SERVICES INC, -- fire department pose with a new rescue van.
