2 - "WEEKEND STAR" FRIDAY, OCTOBER 27, 2000 Proceeds from rockin' evening go to Greenbank Hall ~ By Heather McCrae Weekend Star The sounds of Elvis, i Eddie Cochrane, and other i notable artists will be waft- {ing through the Greenbank 'Hall on Nov. 4. i That's when the Royal Crowns, a four-man rocka- billy band from Toronto, 'will be making its first 'appearance in this area. | For three years Adam (Hunter, 22, and Lindsey 'Luke, 21, have been fans of 'the Royal Crowns, the . house band at the leg- 'endary Horseshoe Tavein in Toronto. "Their music is great," said Ms Luke. "It's rock and roll with a country twang." Because they enjoy the music so much, Adam and Lindsey wanted to intro- duce the band's sound to the community. When they suggested the idea to the Greenbank Hall Board they were all for it, too. All proceeds from the Nov. 4 show will go toward the repair and upkeep of the 130-year-old hall. "We were pleased with their idea," hall board "WHO IS CHARLIE NORRIS? A proud resident of Scugog who has iE worked in Port Perry for 24 years as ... We are proud of our hall, and the people who support our fundrais- ers." The Greenbank Hall is used by all sectors of the community. A haven for guide meetings, dances, euchre parties, showers and other community events including monthly concerts of the Greenbank Folk Music Society, it's a focal point of the commu- nity. But, as with any old building, there is always maintenance and repairs to be done. Earlier this year a deck was built on the front by volunteers and land, purchased last year from a neighbour, is now a much-needed park- ing lot. The organizers of the Nov. 4 show predict the band will be a hit in Greenbank. "They're a rockin' band," said Mr. Hunter. "When | hear their music I'm up off my seat, ready to dance. Nobody sits still when this group comes to town." Tickets, available at $15 each, are available at Star Records, 148 Simcoe St. South in Oshawa, and The Antrim House and Home Hardware in Port Perry. The hall board is looking after the bar and food. Everyone will have the opportunity to win one of many donated door prizes. Donations have already come from Darren Leach and Port Perry Printing, who designed the posters and printed the tickets. The doors open at 8 p.m. While music will ini- tially be provided by a deejay, the band hits the stage at 10. For further information contact Lindsey at. 985- 8060 or Adam at 985-8559.
