Police. Police say a 1999 Ford Taurus operated by 67- year-old Myra June Scholtes, of Haliburton, was eastbound on Hwy. 7A near the Regional Rd. 57 turn-off to Caesarea when the driver lost con- trol and struck a 1991 Ford Taurus, which was west- bound. Mrs. Scholtes was killed in the accident. Her two passengers, both women from the Haliburton area, were transported to Toronto hospitals with serious + injuries. The driver of the other car, 26-year-old Jennifer Christian of Peterborough, was taken to Port Perry hospital where she was held overnight for obser- vation. Her three daughters, Hayley Swain, 4, Hannah, 2, and one-year-old Megan, were not injured. The roads were slip- pery and it was snowing at the time of the accident, # police say. The highway was closed for four hours as officers investigated the accident. In another accident Tuesday - evening, a Bowmanville woman suf- fered serious head injuries and was trans- ported to Sunnybrook " hospital in Toronto. Durham Regional Police report that Patricia Higgens was northbound on Regional Rd. 57 in her 1989 Chev Cavalier when she collided with a blue 1986 6 Chev pickup truck: a the intersection of Clarington's Sixth Concession Road. The driver of the truck, 23-year-old Mark McMurray of Campbelicroft, was east- bound on Conc. 6, say police. Mrs. Higgens was taken to an Oshawa hospital before being transported to Toronto with serious head injuries. Mr. McMurray was not injured in the collision. Alcohol is not a factor in the collision, police add. The Durham Police Traffic Management Unit is investigating this colli- sion. Greenbank last Sunday (Nov. 19) after a stor- age shed was found on fire at lanson Park, shortly after 5:30 p.m. Durham Police were. called in to investigate the incident, and have. deemed the fire suspicious. Damage to the shed is estimated at more than $2,000.
