Coaching clinics in vol- leyball and basketball are scheduled, and the num- ber of teams in school sports is on the increase, says the report, tabled Monday night (Jan. 8). Rob Dyment, facilitator for health and physical education, said that sever- al inter-school and inter- provincial athletic pro- grams are once again func- tioning, nearly three years into a boycott of extracur- ricular activities by sec- ondary school teachers in the region. The teachers have cited increased teaching time and work- load for their inability to commit to after-school activities. "I would say in some sports we are at less than 10 per cent participation, - and in other areas we are above that," said Mr. Dyment. "But there is a steady increase all the time in teachers participat- ing in. these types of sports." He said, however, that the return of school sports is at best partial. "I don't want it to appear that everything is running," he said. "At some schools we have six teams in a sport and at others we have none. | would say in some sports we are as high as 50 per cent operational, and in others we are still at zero." One year ago, the level in Durham was zero. EARLY BIRD 2001 Chevrolet Camaro ry 28th!
