McClelland Weekend Star There will be no tomorrow when the Port Perry Mojacks take to the ice at the Scugog Arena tonight for Game 4 in their playoff series with the Lakefield Chiefs. After a tough 5-4 loss in Lakefield on Tuesday, the Mojacks find themselves in that most unpleasant of spots -- down three games to none in a best-of-seven affair. MoJack's head coach and GM Murray Parliament knows his team is in tough now, but said after Tuesday's. game that the players are certainly not willing to concede anything. "The guys are hanging in there," he said. And, he added that the players are hoping to see a good crowd on hand for the Friday night game :(faceoff's at 8 p.m.). "That would give the guys a bit of a boost." In the 5-4 loss in Lakefield Tuesday night, the ~MoJacks fell behind 3-1 in the first period with the 'Chiefs nailing two of their three goals while on the power play. Ryan McQuade got the lone MoJack marker in the first. It was a different story in the second as the .MoJacks rallied to tie things at 3-3, with McQuade "getting his second of the match, and defenseman Darryl Rose netting the other. But the Chiefs struck again early in the third with two quick goals to take a 5-3 lead. McQuade got his hat trick mid-way through the period to get the MoJacks to within one, but that's as close as it got. They had their chances, however, with a power play late in the game and netminder lan Watson on -the bench for an extra attacker. But Chiefs goalie Ryan Hogan held off the late Tumn'to Page 21 SOCCER AND SOFTBALL ~ REGISTRATIONS 2001 Registrations received after February 24 will be subject to a late fee of $25 per player Health Card anid Birth Date Mail in registration continues with information required no late fee until March 31 FEES: Health Card information required $75 - $125 depending on age FEES: Telephone: 985-7553 T-ball: $45 Mites: $60 E-mail:scugogsoccer@aol.com Ages 9-18: $70 h) Family discount for families with 3 or more children- max fee $160 Post-dated IW I age submit letter of application prior to February 24 The Compton Cable Tri-County Tkes com the Triple Crown after they captured the "A" cham- SUBMITTED PHOTO pleted plonship at the recent Port Carling tournament. Coach Brouse predicted the boys would win the 'A' title to round out the year and his hunches are seldom wrong. Wearing their lucky red jerseys the Port team first came up against Elmvale. As usual, the boys got off to 'a slow start but Dale Edwards got things rolling when he skated down a long pass and shot it in the open side. The floodgates then opened as Port went on to record a 9-1 victory. Other goalscorers were Reid Stewart who played terrific all tournament. Brody Anderson notched two including one clever shot from behind the net that 'Mason, Dale went in off the goalie. Josh Malyon picked up two with one being off a rare backhand. Jonathan Brouse put a backhander in the far top corner and the hang time was recorded at 4.3 seconds. Kyle Schweda from a blast from the point and Andrew Van Camp from the slot rounded out the scoring. There were several nice passes made and assists" went to Nathan Scott (two), Brody Anderson (two), Nick Edwards, Aaron Ashbridge, Andrew Van Camp, Josh Malyon, Reid Stewart and Stewart Ct. Cyr. Stewart Ct. Cyr played a strong game and had several good scoring chances. Aaron Ashbridge made one spectacular pass to Josh for a one timer but it rang out off the post. Dale Edwards strong skating game earned him the game's MVP. The second game against Huntsville was the most exciting game so far this year for the Tykes. It was a very fast paced game with two evenly matched teams. Our defence had to be strong and Nick Mason, Kyle Schweda, Nicholas Shinas, Reid Stewart, Nathan Scott and Brody Anderson all made great defensive plays. Trevor Grant was so calm and cool on the point and made several smart plays offensively and defen- sively throughout the tournament. Travis Mackey played well in the cage for Port but it didn't look good when Huntsville went up 2-0 halfway through the final period. The game was frustrating to watch as the Predators were carrying the play but shots were hitting legs and they couldn't catch a break. : The team's spark plug, Brody Anderson, went deep in the corner Turn to Page 21
