The Shepstone Haulage Tween ringette team ventured down to Jordan, a little . hamlet on the shores of Lake Ontario by St. Catharines, where ringette still thrives. Port Perry has made the trip on this week- end the past five years but never with such a depleted team. The girls would see lots of ice time and have to play through injuries and fatigue and play they did. The first game was against Chatham and proved to be a penalty filled affair but Port came out on top. Cait Hellingman scored three times on the patented bullet backhander. Lauren Guthrie had a goal and an assist while Rachel Kaye had two assists. Victoria Sturgess played vastly improved on defence collecting an assist on one of her many clearing passes from her zone. : The next game versus Paris was a bit lopsided but the girls played with sports- manship and zeal. Kim Wilson scored three times. Amanda Doble had two goals on blazing wrist shots while Britney DeCosta had three assists in the 10-2 game. The host town-Jordan provided some great competition. A goalies duel ensued with Lyndsay Whyte from Shepstone earn- ing the tie. Cait rifled four more backhan- ders and the stage was set for the grand finale on Sunday against Chatham. With ever depleting resources Cait, Kim and Rachel showed team spirit and played great on defence. Amanda Curry came to play scoring three goals and three assists in a 7-3 win. Cait, Lauren, Kim and Amanda Doble rounded out the scoring with Lyndsay. tough to beat in net. Britney set up a classic goal and Shepstones' Port Perry girls won Jordan's Friendship Tournament. A special thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Shepstone for their donation for the girls pizza party and to Brenda Hellingman and Ken Wilson for their help on the bench. Port Perry ringette rules.
