BD Em z ole] : It is the product of the ongoing consultations among Scugog, Uxbridge, Clarington and Brock Townships, exploring into ways to share ser- vices and cut operating costs for the four rural ,,- municipalities. -. Two. main. strategies are included in the "report. : «0 Option | recommends reducing regional . council representation for municipality in Durham to one councillor, with another added for every 28,001 residents. To ensure that representation is equal at all times, each municipality would be permitted to have an alternate representative, possibly the mayor, who would vote only in the absence of the regional representative. This follows a model set forth in the Greater Toronto Services Board (GTSB) report. 0 Option 2 recommends simply redrawing ward boundaries in each township to reduce the number of ward councillors by one. The reallocation of regional representatives would result in a cost savings of around $47,000 a year in salary, while Option 2 would realize a savings of about $16,000.
