22 - "WEEKEND STAR" FRIDAY, MARCH 30, 2001 In Quaker Village Youth, service clubs will mark Earth Day with tree plantings The Township of Uxbridges' youth groups, service clubs and community groups can enhance the environ- ment - and earn a certificate of recognition - by partici- pating in a community tree planting day on Saturday, April 21 - Earth Day, in the Quaker Common park lands that can be accessed from Quaker Village Drive, or Brock Road. Shell Environmental Fund has donated over'$3,000 towards the community tree planting day which is being spearheaded by the Uxbridge Brook Watershed Committee, an advisory committee of Uxbridge Council. The Township of Uxbridge and the Ministry of Natural Resources' Community Fisheries and Wildlife Involvement Program are also providing financial sup- port, the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority is organizing the event. Approximately 700 trees and shrubs are to be planted along the banks of the stream and pond in Quaker Common. This reforestation effort will help naturalize the park area, improve water quality in the Uxbridge Brook, and enhance wildlife habitat.
